    hi, my asus w3j was received on tuesday and i cannot start it up when its not plugged in. I press the power button, and the lights come on, but the screen stays black. After that, no matter how long i hold the pwoer button, the computer doesnt shut off...
    help?

    Something is wrong with your display. I think it might be your screen. Send it back to Asus and get it replaced.

    Because the power button doesn't cause it to respond, it must be something more serious. In any event, you could try an external monitor. No matter what, you will need to get it back to ASUS for them to fix.

    damnit, are you sure its not the standby hibernate issue
    / the computer turns on fine when i have the AC plugged inm
    (im on it now)

    Seeing as it's pretty new, I would just use the Recovery CD to wipe it and start from scratch. This seems to have cleared up a couple of power issues with the W3j, including mine.

    is there anything i can do to alter the hybernate mode/ standby mode maybe?

    also when i turn it on with battery, the screen doesnt come on, just the lights... when it is sitting there i put in the AC and it starts up fine.

    Setting HDD timeout to never in all P4G settings solves resuming from standby and hibernation.

    But what you describe does not sound normal, I would do a fresh install using the Asus recovery CD and Asus Driver CD, if the problem still remains I would contact Asus.
