OK, kind of a long story here. A few years ago I bought a custom-configured N550JV from Ken at gentechpc.com Great machine, great service. I had him put the boot drive (Samsung 120gb SSD) in the DVD slot, and a hard drive for storage in the main drive port. Seemed like a good idea at the time, since I figured the HD would need the better cooling that the regular slot would have. BTW, the OS is Windows 8.
So a month ago, I cloned the 120gb SSD to a 250 SSD, swapped them out, and all works fine. However when setting things up, I got the message from the cloning utility that the SSD would work much better in the SATA3 port (where my HD storage drive is). So now I've decided to replace the HD with a 500gb SSD and make it the boot drive. Here's where it gets complicated:
After I cloned the boot drive (250 to the 500), and replaced the HD (which again was in the physical primary drive position but was set up as a storage drive) with the new 500 SSD, and I rebooted, all I see now is the 250 (which again is in the DVD slot). OK, so I went into the UEFI mode to see what's going on and to try to get the system to boot up from the 500, and the only place the 500 even shows up, is in Advanced / SATA Mode Selection. Doesn't show up at all in "Boot Options/Priorities".
Any tips on getting my system to boot from the (500GB) drive that's in the SATA3 port, and still have the 250 show up, but as a secondary drive? I tried to email Ken but he doesn't reply. Maybe he's on vacation?
TIA! David
