    Hi there

I have an Asus M70VM and I'm trying to set up XP on it but I'm having a problem getting some of the drivers.

I look in device manager and I see this -

Please could someone point me in the right direction of some XP drivers for the M70VM and/or advise me on how to solve the yellow question marks in Device Manager.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice. :)

Let me suggest that one of unknowns is webcam.
Chech XoticPC website - they have drivers download page

Sometimes when I have bad luck with unknown devices, I simply delete them from device manager, reboot computer and OS informs me that 'new device has found' bluh...bluh...
Often it gives me idea about this device so I can contemplate about...

OK I solved the wireless one, the Network controller. The 2 unknowns are not the webcam, that's already installed using the basic driver from the XP CD it seems. Which is fine by me because I don't actually use the webcam.

Asus's site only has Vista drivers and they won't install in XP, they recognise that the OS is not a "compatible operating system", i.e. it's not Vista... :(

The fingerprint driver is in your drivers DVD, just browse the DVD and go to Softwares/Fingerprint and run SETUPIAM.EXE.

one unknown device is the the TV tuner and the driver is also in the drivers DVD, however, Asus might use different brands of TV tuner so they include all 3 type of TV tuner drivers, you just need to browse the folders to see which one works for you. but I think it should be: SOFTWARE\TV_TUNER\YUAN_MC872-1D\VISTA32\DPINST.EXE.

The 2nd unknown device is the IR driver which will never work for XP, therefore, the remote controller will not work under XP.

Ok thanks for the tip on the fingerprint scanner. I actually didn't think of that as all the other ones I've tried won't even run the installer in XP.

I don't think the other unknown one is the TV Tuner as it doesn't have the TV Tuner...

I'll take a look and see what the properties say and post the info here if I can't work out what I'm looking for.

EDIT: OK well I don't know where the unknown device was but I installed the fingerprint scanner and it disappeared from the list so I'm happy. All seems to be ok so far. Just need to get the wireless console 2 and bluetooth working now...

    Thanks guys. :)

Download and install the following drivers and utilities.

Fingerprint driver and utility for WIN XP V2.1.0.880.18_V7.8.1
Wireless Console Utility for WIN XP V2.0.10 (network controller)
Intel Wireless Lan Driver and Application for WIN XP V11.1.1.16
Lan Driver for WIN XP V5.674.807.2007

    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=F8Sv

To install the drivers for the unknown devices, you need to put the Vista driver CD (accompanied with the computer when you bought it) into the DVD drive. This CD still contains the XP support package. A Vista driver installation window will appear. Close that window.

Go to Device Manager. Click with the right mouse key on the devices with question (?) marks, and select “Install Driver”. Direct the driver installation wizard to the DVD drive. XP will search and install the drivers automatically.

Cool thanks for the tips. I have it all working ok now, well afaik, I haven't tested the Blutooth or the DVD with a blu ray disc (or installed Win DVD so I can yet) but it all appears to be working fine now, even the DVD drive which was BSODing on me when I put in particular disks (including the Vista driver disk) - I installed XP SP3 which seems to have cured that problem.

Thanks for all the help guys. It has been very much appreciated as I need XP to play Race 07 in max settings (on Vista it stutters no matter what settings I have it in...) The help has been very much appreciated and if anyone needs any advice from me on setting up XP for the M70VM just ask and I'll see what I can do. :)

ravenmorphesu haven't You got a problem with sound on Your M70 ? I mean the delay when starting playback. On my M70Vr first subwoofer starts playing and after less than half second normal speakers start playing which is very annoying :( There is no such problem while playing with headphones plugged.
There are more owners of M50/M70 series that have various problems with sound delays. If You are interested see thread from this link:

I can't say I've noticed that. What I have got is a problem in Vista and XP - when I have the realtek HD audio manager on default settings I can only get sound from the SPDIF or Headphone outputs, when I change the settings so it splits the audio streams I can then get sound from the speakers and headphone sockets, but not the SPDIF it seems. This happened as soon as I plugged in a lead to the headphone/SPDIF outputs to output the sound to my hi-fi, I also plugged an input into the mic input and didn't get sound out of it...

Not a problem as far as I'm concerned though as everything is working fine for me now I've changed the settings in the realtek HD audio manager, so as far as I'm concerned it's all working as I want it...

I'll take a look at the thread anyway to see if I can offer any advice or solve the issue I'm having. :)

Actually there is one last thing I need to sort out - the Dolby app that is pre-installed on Vista doesn't seem to be on the drivers disk. Anyone have any idea where I can get that from for XP or is it just a Vista thing? :)
