    Hi,

There have been past threads about problems getting digital audio out of the combination headphone/SPDIF jack on Asus notebooks. Haven’t been able to get it working on my 2-year-old Asus N53Jf and I thought I’d see if anyone has a solution.

As usual Asus’s documentation is weak. The manual only says it’s SPDIF out and it doesn’t say whether its coaxial (RCA)or optical (mini-TOSlink) I’ve seen threads for some Asus notebooks that say it’s coaxial and I’ve seen YouTube videos for other Asus models that show it’s optical.

I can’t see any light from the jack when audio is playing so I think this model is coax. When I try a proper 75-ohm SPDIF cable using an adapter (mono 3.5 mm miniplug to RCA jack), there’s still no signal. Haven't yet bought a miniTOSlink cable, I thought I'd ask for advice first.

I’m running Win 7 SP1 64-bit and have the playback device set to Realtek Digital Output . (Side note: I think that's the right selection but properties for this device, under jack information, says “ATAPI Internal ATAPI jack”. )

    Any advice? Thanks
