Hi,
I had a corrupt vista installation.. so bad that even the recovery dvd would not work. I however managed to get ubuntu working on it (minus wireless driver)
Now i installed xp.. and i used the trick to get nlite.. to make a custom windows CD so that it could read from the sata hard drive.
Now my problem is however... that even the ethernet controller in it does not work. windows can't find a driver for it. so i could not simply plug in my rj45 ethernet cable to get internet. so i had to use a wireless USB drive to trasnfer the intel drivers for the wireless 4965 card in it. The drivers installed correctly... however it cannot detect wireless networks. It says to check that the radio light is on.. but its not. When i press function F2 the radio light does not come on. Now i know some of the function keys work... because i can hold the function and adjust the brightness. however the radi light just does not want to come on. Do i have to install something specific to get it working? is there a software alternative to turn the radio switch on? what should i do i am stuck?

You can check the following two places:
1. Device Manager, and see if wireless card is hardware disabled.
2. Network Connection in the control panel, and see if wireless card is software disabled.
As for ethernet socket, you can also check to see if it is recognized in the device manager. If yes, then you should be able to download chipset driver from both ASUS website or Intel's website. -
its enabled in device manager and the network control panel. The radi light however won't come on when i press function f2. so it won't detect wireless networks but i gues thats no surprise if its not even turned on. so the driver appears to be working normally but its not?

Try diagnose and repair. If I remember correctly, it should indicates whether the problem is at hardware level or software level.
I'm not leaning more towards it not being enabled by the ATK hotkey. For some reason the Hotkey does not function properly. You can try reinstalling the program, and ATK driver utility. -
im not sure which ATK driver utility to install... i searched for the ATK0100 ACPI Control Driver utility which has "hcontrol" which i believe is for hotkeys... i found a random one since asus itself doesn't offer it to download on their site.. and now when i do the function F2... it says "wireless off" "bluetooth off" and when i hit it again.. it says "wireless off" blue tooth "off" so it seems like there is something wrong with the function key / hotkey program utility or whatever. Im not sure exactl what program to use.
i did a search on the asus site for the ATK utilities and got ATK_Hotkey ATK_Media ATKDrv ATKOSD2
i tried some of them already but the only thing that seemed to do anything was the acpi atk control utility but it didn't work right so i am not sure what to do
I did manage to get ethernet working however... i used the driver that came on the driver cd the vista one and it works on xp.. i read that from some random post on the net and it worked.
Trying to install xp on asus F3SV
