    Hello people,

I have G51vx and the microphone just sucks big time on this unit. I think owners of other Asus G-series laptop might have this problem too. Speech recognition is practically impossible to use with built-in mic. My friends on Skype can hardly hear me as well.

Using an external mic is also a bad option. It is much nicer to use a built-in one and not have to carry an external mic.

Therefore, I'm trying to mod the mic for a better one. I'm wondering if the problem is in the microphone itself or if there is a problem with amp circuitry. The latter would be much harder to mod (or impossible).

So, has anyone attempted soldering a new microphone in?

I have another old HP laptop which also has a built-in microphone. My mic experience with that HP laptop is much better.

Before I will remove the mic from HP laptop and solder it into my Asus laptop I would like to get some input from you, guys. Maybe someone has already attempted a microphone swap and found this solution unsuccessful (the mic amp problem mentioned above).

    Any input is greatly appreciated.
