A detailed and handy reference to people who want to change or add RAM to the W3V.
PLEASE DO NOT turn this into a warranty debate. I can just now imagine some smartass asking how come ASUS puts this up when it would void the warranty.

To save trouble of knowing the empty memory (ram) slot for US stock model, is the EMPTY memory (ram) slot located under the keyboard module or at the bottom of the notebook?

The empty (secondary) slot is on the bottom of the notebook. There's a picture in the manual (yeah, you may have to open it.... [
]) that shows exactly where. Just take out six screws and pop the panel off and the slot is right there. Stick your memory in at an angle, then press it down until it snaps in flush, put the bottom panel back on, and you're ready to go.
Even I didn't ahve any trouble with it, and I'm an artist....... []

Man, I'm still using 512 MB of RAM...I've been using 512 for about 2-3 years now.

Yup, I've been using 512 MB of RAM since I built my old Athlon 1.4 GHz. Still using the same amount in my P4 2.4C oc'd to 3.0

I think people exaggerate when they say 1GB is necessary and whatnot... I mean sure, it MAY be necessary if they play the most recent games and work a lot with RAM hungry programs... but for the average user who word processes and surfs the net, I think 512 is plenty. 256 would even suffice in a lot of cases...

i've still got 256MB in my desktop from 3-4 years ago DDR2100. i don't know how i manage but i do and i vowed not to our more money into this POS aging desktop until i do a complete overhaul. i got sick of waiting for a decently priced 939 shuttle and just went with a laptop as a hedge against the upgrade fever.

eightone, thanks for posting that link...I was looking for something just like that!!!
AuroraS, 1GB is the new 256MB! What are you...new?
I'm just kidding, I agree, people are very RAM hungry these days, no matter what their realistic needs actually are.

The difference I noticed (in terms of program access speed and reduction in hard drive usage) was pretty dramatic when comparing 512megs to a full gig of memory. I, too, stuck with 512 megs for a long time. Now I know what I was missing, and will not go back.
I would think just the reduction in heat from the hard drive not having to work as much would be incentive enough for most people.
