    try the following
    1. remove norton. You can use this http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm?s_cid=sah/?s_cid=sah. this tool is basically windows one care for free. does not require installation and runs when you want it to. or you can buy a one care license
    2. disable defender from running scans daily
    3. disable bluetooth in device manager if you dont need to use it
    4. disable the NIC in device manager if you dont use it
    5. uninstall asus live update and asus prope
    6. maximize your battery life by tweaking power4gear the way you want. noramlly you should use battery saving mode when mobile.
    7. disable automatic updating for windows update
    8. turn down your brightness either manually or with power4gear

    oh and unplugging the battery when ac is not connected will help eliminate the express gate light from remaining on while off. this also drains the battery

    Kill the indexing service...cuts down on the HDD thrashing.

    Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> double click Service applet -> right click on Services and select properties -> click Stop button -> select Disable from the Startup Type dropdown box

    i would love to say that getting an ssd drive helps..... but it doesnt!
