Hi all. I have two issues with my A8Js, maybe someone can help.

    1. I like my screen to power off after 5 minutes - no screensaver, just power off. Thus, in power settings, I configure screen power off under AC after 5 minutes. Problem is, the screen doesnt come back on. I have to suspend (using the power button) and then come back from suspend - then the screen works again. Anyone knows why this is happening, if there is a patch or solution?

    2. I want to synchronize my pocket pc via bluetooth. For this, I need to configure a serial port in bluetooth, so that it connects to activesync. Done this in my desktop without problem. In the A8Js, I can pair the devices but under options, where I configure COM ports, I see no ports listed. I see the Bluetooth ports installed under device manager, but no way to tell the BT Manager to link my device to a given serial port. Any ideas?

    Thanks all,

    Juan Miguel Venturello

    1. have you installed Power4Gear power management software/driver for your notebook. Everything works well for me with it installed.

Venturello, I have exactly the same problem as you describe in number 1, and I do have Power4Gear installed. I'm planning on just trying the old trick of uninstalling and reinstalling Power4Gear. Hopefully that will work.

Here's a thread that poses a solution to the hibernate problem, it may have a positive affect for you, however your problems seem a little different.

For problem 1, the only way for you to get your screen to turn on is to press the power button? Your stating that moving the mouse or keyboard will not turn on the screen? Lets us know if that link helps.

For 2, try this. It worked on my W3J using ActiveSync 4.2 and a Dell AXIM X51v.

    Good luck !

Got #2 working, thanks Mr Pigeon for help! Was selecting the wrong port (should have tried 7!).

Thanks MileStonePC for your answer but that's not the problem (already applied that patch first thing after getting my laptop! ;) ). Besides my english not being perfect, my OS is in Spanish so I dont know the correct terms.

Its not an issue with suspend or hibernate, its with the setting where you tell in power options to turn off the screen after X minutes (same place as where you select time for turning off idle hard drives). The way I like it, I see no purpose on a screensaver, so I choose none (the blank screensaver does not turn LCD off but displays a black full screen fill), and then in power options I choose this option to turn LCD off after X minutes. Passed X minutes on any PC, you move mouse or press a key and screen quickly turns back on. On this A8Js it does not. I know windows is 'alive' because through keyboard actions I can see activity on my commands (HD for example). But the screen wont go on. I choose the hotkey for LCD on/off, that does not work. I press hotkey for external screen, neither. Only option I've found save from powering off, is going into standby using power button, and then powering back again. Screen now turns on, and I can continue working.

Curious strange problem, eh? Any suggestions?

I have exactly the same problem with my S96J. The funny thing is sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. It's definitely not a major problem, but it is a bit annoying.

I have the same issue with my Inspiron E1505 (issue 1, screen not turning back on). Just like caleb555 said, it just happens sometimes. However, I don't turn it OFF then ON or suspend, I just close the laptop, and when I open it up again the screen turns back on.

Have you found any way around it?

i'm sure you guys have tried this, but just in case you haven't, when my screen powers off and won't turn back on, if i close the lid and reopen it it turns back on.
