    Hi guys ,

I'd like to buy a new notebook . I've got no doubts it'll be Asus . I gotta choose one of those - u1 , u3 , u6 and w5fe . I won't play any games on it , what I care about is the design , workmanship , portability (weight) and speed ( just during opening applications , working on them and starting&shutting down windows) .

I don't know which one should I take , all of 'em look pretty well and made of good materials . I rather prefer black colour to the white one (As far as I know U6 has white interior) . So far I have only touched W5fe and it was actually quite good experience ( light , "smooth" in touch ) and I couldn't avoid the exterior screen which is little advantage of W5.

Anyway , I guess that many of You had all of those Notebooks in own hands . I'd appreciate any advices , 'cause I won't be able to test them all out by myself . Hoping for any help in choosing .

    Thanks in advance,
    Silt

13" would be the best , but 12" or 11" isn't a big disadvantage . I forgot about HDMI ... It'd be a great feature to connect the Notebook via HDMI to my LCD - as far as know , only U6S has that output ?

    I've a question - Is U1E's processor (Core2 Duo U7500 1.06 GHz, 2MB cache) much more worse than Core2 Duo T7500 (2.20 GHz, 4MB cache) ?

The thing is I like the appearance of U1S most , but comparing to U3 , U6 and W5 it has similar price , but worse performance .

I don´t think the U1 CPU (10Watt) is worse than T7500 (35Watt) unless you need to run intensive applications (maybe ???) but then battery life may go down.So it´s up to your needs & liking .

U1 - great ,but it hasn't got HDMI , has less RAM than the others ... the only thing that convinces me is portability and design ,but it's not enought so let's cross it out .

U3s - Like the design ( Do You know , whether it's aluminium or plastic - especially silver part ? ) and quite good portability . It has HDMI , GPS and 13 inch screen . The only disadvantage is battery's life ( just 2h ) , however I think it's all I need ... What's Your opinion ?

    U6 - Pretty the same as U3 . But this white colour ... - as I said I prefer black .

W5Fe - Also great portability and design . The exterior screen is very useful and practical . If it had HDMI , I would buy it straight away ... but it hasn't .

    So eventually I'm considering buying u3s and w5fe . I think I'll take u3 but I'm still not sure ,so I wouldn't mind any advices .

w5 is end of life. forget about it
u1 is end of life. forget it
    u6 is end of life
u3s is still current but should be eol
replacements are u6sg, f9sg, and u2e all of which come with penryn cpu, better specs and about the same price.

U2E doesn't use Penryn processors, still Merom, Intel
U7500. There are no Penryn ULV processors yet, they'll come later this year with Montevina.

Also yes, there will be a significant performance hit with the ULV CPU w.r.t. to the normal one.

    This is still correct:
but means that you might actually not NOTICE the performance hit because you don't top up the CPU. But the performance hit will be there.
