OK I just don't get it, this up coming week Asus will be shipping the U30JC to resellers. Where is all the hype, where are all the video review, where are all the blogs. Gimmie something to go on here. I am seriously contemplating pulling the trigger on this notebook, but for the first time ever the web is completely silent (except for some foreign stuff and zedomax).
I just don't get it, usually leading up to a product like this there is hype, industry buzz. Youtube is filled with videos, there is nothing. So either the resellers that are reporting 3/16 as the ship date are wrong. Or Asus is completely bottling up this release. It just seem very odd to me.
I personally think this thing is going to be held up..
Anyway does anybody have any opinions or insight on the situation?

I see the notebook but not the release date.

I'd also like to see some info on this machine. I have been trying to decide which comp I am going to get and was on the borderline for UL30vt, but this rig looks like it will compete very well at a slim increase of cost.
It also carries an optical drive, has the i3 processor (which still about doubles the processor power in the u30vt right?), and "up to" 8 hrs battery life. If it even get 4-6 hrs I would be very happy with this machine.
I was also waiting on the UL30JT, but with an i7 I figure the price is going to be quite high compared to the UL30vt...
The UL30JT obviously looks like it will kill the U30JC with the i7, GS45 chipset, same Video card it looks like but the UL has 1GB of video RAM compared to 512Mb of the U30JC.
The pre-order page is at http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-u30jca1-order-p-2763.html
I really don't need the huge battery life that the UL series comes with. I just want something that will last around 4 hrs but still be an upgrade of power to the UL30vt... would this be the laptop to do it? (I don't mind the lack of slim design and light weight either) -
Actually just saw this video where the i3,5,7 'should' be offered with this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx3hMUzV5gk
I think I read somewhere as well that the i3 can be overclocked 30% to be right up there with the i5.
U30JC should have Optimus technology also...
http://www.bloggerisme.com/asus-n61jv-ul50vf-and-u30jc-with-nvidia-optimus.html -
Also, both cards will have 512MB video RAM; the Nvidia 310m can only have up to 512MB, the 1GB was most likely a typo.
There seems to be much confusion still between different core i3, i5, i7 processors. The Core i7 in the UL30JT with the UM suffix (something like Ultra low voltage Mobile) may still have lower performance than the i3 full voltage processor in the U30JC with the M suffix. The UL30JT's processor may carry the all-powerful sounding i7 name, but that may just mean that it's the best in its class of ULV processor.
tl;dr: The U30JC may have better CPU performance and will have identical GPU performance and lower battery life. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
^^ No matter what the U30JC has better performance. Even when the Core i7 in the UL30JT has Turbo Boost on, the U30 with an i3 will be faster. And the U30 has the HM55 chipset.
-
But if the U30JC even gets 6 hrs of battery life, it's going to be a very good machine. Those who want the 10+ hr light notebook have to sacrifice a lot of performance it looks like. -
-
Hopefully it's release this week. Can't wait
-
Yeah I think for now the U30JC really fits my needs assuming it at least 4 to 5 hours of battery life. I have been searching every day for updated info and just cannot believe there are no pre-release reviews. Maybe this is more of a niche market machine than I thought.
If anyone finds anything additional on the net post it here please!! -
I've seen plenty of foreign sites asking about it too and when it would be coming. Any pre-reviews I have read say that this should be a nice machine. It's only $100 or so more expensive than the UL30vt and should out perform it by quite a bit minus battery life, which is a sacrifice I am more than willing to make.
I can't see why this computer would be a dud from anything I've read yet... very weird how there's not much word about it. -
Cmon ASUS unleash the beast already
-
Well, today is March 16 and EXcaliberPC still says that today is the ETA for this model. We can always hope that there aren't any big delays.
-
Well I just found a review (albeit chinese) but you can sift through the detailed review just posted today using babel
Click here to read 14 page review
maybe this means that the machines are in fact on the way.... -
OK here is one more translated with google this time seems more accurate
CLick here to read this one -
Quote from that second website
-
OK found one more
Here is the translation
With all these chinese review coming out it make me think that we are truly on the cusp of the US release..... -
I am hoping it will get something like 5-6 hours max in power saving.
-
This looks like good news...
A couple of weeks?
http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop/shop.cgi?action=enter&thispage=01000100U013_BCN7054P.shtml&order_id=!ORDERID!#Availability
This is a site that just popped up on a Google search that I haven't seen before. -
Shows where the i3 on this notebook will compete with others... it's in the 2nd group. Obviously the regular i7 and i5 kill the i3 but the i5,7 eat a lot more battery life I've read.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html
Now how will this i3 perform compared to the i7-ulv?
the i3 has 2.27GHz... as far as I've found the i7-ulv will have 1.33GHz but can turbo boost up to 2.4GHz
For weight comparisons the UL series flat out beats up the U series. That Chinese site though shows the UL30JC at 2.575 KG --> 5.665 (This is including battery and AC adapter). Keep in mind that the UL series don't come with optical drives either, where the U30Jc does.
However, this site...
http://pcmike.com/2010/02/09/intel-to-add-1-33ghz-ulv-core-i7-this-summer/
...shows the i7-ulv not coming out until summer time.
I can't wait for that to come out, so looks like the U30Jc will be the winner for me. -
According to a retailer I talked to today, Asus was supposed to receive them today. They are shipping out to the resellers this week and various retailers should have them in the next couple of weeks.
-
EXcaliberPC has updated their page for the U30JC-A1. They now say that the estimated shipping date is March 26. This seems to fit with them being sent out this week.
http://www.excaliberpc.com/595467/asus-u30jc-a1-13.3-notebook-silver.html
Hopefully once it hits there will be more reviews. Some of the pictures I have seen suggest that the screen has below average horizontal viewing angles. -
If the i3-350M has the true Turbo33 as the SU7300's had you may see 3.00 GHz out of the CPU too. The i3-350M has no default Intel turbo mode so this may be feasable............
-
Don't you mean the i3-350M?
-
-
Ah shucks, looking around and maybe no Turbo33, I was hoping though and still keeping my fingers crossed............
-
This model must be coming soon... along with what the retailers say I would have to believe the release is true.

Look up the U30jc there and all of the download files are now available. There was a blog on the 16th that these were now posted. -

Has anyone found what wireless card this is going to carry? The Asus download page shows drivers for the Intel 6250, Intel 6250 Wimax, and Intel 1000.
I want to be able to run Linux (Ubuntu) on this, so hopefully there will be support for the wireless card.
Other than that, there is a high demand for Optimus to work under Linux. I would figure someone will be working on getting the switched graphics working.
....
After looking at the Intel 6250 WiMax, it's for broadband access so it's not comparable to WiFi.
So it's either the 6250 or the 1000. I guess it will probably be the 6250 being that it's such a new notebook? -
You might also want to check into the ubuntu drivers for the G310m last I heard Nvidia had not posted them yet, and you cannot use the 210m drivers due to the optimus differences <shrug>
But I'm sure nvidia will address that quickly since this is the first notebook to carry optimus, I think its fair to give them time to get thier ducks in a row... -
-
The unit is shipping into the channel now. The release date is on April 5th.

No mention of turbo 33 from reviwer -
It says on some of the sites that it will play Blu-Ray 1080p discs. Is this optical drive Blu-Ray ROM capable?
-
-
power 4 gear is listed on the drivers for the u30jc on asus's site. Therefore could we conclude that it indeed has turbo33?
Also there is an turbo boost driver avail also so therefore, we could conclude that some of these could have i5-i7 cpu's right? as the i3 does not have them. Blu-ray is an easy upgrade most more in depth company's should offer it as you just swap out the drive.
hope this helps!
what is the exterior metal, or fake metal? (hard to tell from pics) -
-
on xotic pc (link here: http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-u30jca1-order-p-2763.html) it clearly says "blu-ray" on the disc drive picture...does it come standard? Im thinking it would because the price is fairly high, $869 for just an i3 and a switchable 310m...and i hope it comes with usb 3.0 as well...if not, im probably gonna go with the n61jq

Unboxing video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MxWzjGEFYA -
here is a taiwanese site, http://gamingcrafts.wordpress.com/2010/03/20/u30jc/
interesting to note that this is actually a i5-430M model. maybe we will get them in the US too? -
ok, finally I was able to get a peek at that Turbo33 ad stand in the video from CES. It say's Turbo33 as listed is for the UL80JT i5-520UM 4GB Ram Win7 Ultimate 64Bit.
Edit Pure Speculations;
I can't read the numbers in the add but ARK has the i5-520UM as 1.066 to 1.866 so my guess would be 1.4 GHz to just under 2.5 GHz.
Also the i5-520UM list in ARK as DDR3 800, this make perfect sence for the ASUS Turbo33 as it essentially is an FSB increase to DDR3 1066............
http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=47700,43562,47554,43529,
This list the i3-350M as DDR3 800/1066 but all others as DDR3 800, so maybe the i3-350M is not a canidate for the Asus Turbo33 FSB boost as the default clock supports DDR3 1066......
U30JC Where is all the info? Media silence?!?
