Since it's going off topic at the UL30VT thread, I'll make one here. Gonna make a few important quotes from that thread and put it in this post, and members can use this thread for all discussion, speculation and rumours, oh how we love rumours![]()
So what we know so far, its called the U30JC, a part of the U-series, and not the UL-series. This means that the likelyhood of an optical drive, backlit keyboard and bluetooth are very high but again, speculation based on the pre-release demo model at CES. Nothing is ever set in stone until it hits the dealers worldwide.
"Specifications"
Core i3 or i5(with Turbo Boost)

13.3" LED 1366x768 screen
nvidia G310M w/ Intel X4500MHD(?)

Wow, I will consider this one as my new replaced laptop :]
Btw, I think Intel GMA HD in the picture is the graphic that comes along with the new arrandale, not Intel x4500MHD. -
the spec looks pretty good.
I hope it will support USB 3.0 as well. Then it will be PERFECT!!! -

how is the build quality of the U series compared to the UL?
-
-
i was considering this then i found out that it's using the i7 1ghz/1.2ghz, so i moved on to K42JR using the i5 2.2ghz that OC's to 2.5ghz right out of the box.
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
that is good to know coriolis, thanks.
rysher, i think you are talking about the ULxxJt, not U30Jc. this one doesn't use the UM processors. -
-
quality build + backlit keyboard = day 1 purchase for me
:fingerscrossed: -
I hope this one would not be over 1100 usd
-
Hmm I'm somewhat torn between this and the UL30JT. What are everyones estimates for battery life on this one?
-
If UL30JT can last for 12 hours, this one should be 5-7 hours.
-
Spec wise the machine looks to be slotted in as a Sony S11 competitor.
Traditionally Sony SR series now S11 was around $900 - $1200 I believe. (Pure speculation on what the U30JC machine could cost)
I'm looking at this one closely vs any of the turbo thin machines. I'm concerned about the thinness causing heat issues while running intense 3d apps that some have reported on ul30vt in this forum. I hope the build quality is there.
I'm also cross shopping Sony Z, Thinkpad X300, Envy 13 but those are more higher end $1500+ machines.
I consider Sony S11 and maybe this machine U30Jc to be upper midrange 13" machines (due to thinness ~1.1inch and reasonable weight ~4.2lbs and pricing of ~$900-1200 with discrete and real cpu)
I think bluray rom drive is a bit useless on a 720p screen though. -
IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
I hope more pictures of it will come to us soon
-
deleted, wrong thread, sry.
-
U83JC also has USB 3.0 support as well.
But anyway, just my wishful thinking. If U30JC will support USB 3.0, i am sure Asus will at least mention it. -
Kind of making me think macbook -
IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
someone, take more pictures of it please! -
Any new updates to when the U30JC will arrive, spec's and price? I had planned on buying a UL30VT, but could not because it lacked one major need a backlit keyboard so now I'm looking hard at the new Sony S11 and this. I know the original thought was 4-8 weeks from a couple of weeks ago (CES 2010), will this now be ready in 2 weeks or 6 weeks? If 2 weeks info should be leaking about it and price.
-
-
No more sightings or news of the U30JC, guess that means they are getting ready to drop soon or not at all. Looks like I'm getting closer to getting the BB Sony S11 and not an Asus. I'll pull the trigger in the next few weeks, just looking now for a sale.
-
Yea where is this laptop...
I like how asus slapped on the "worlds first laptop with 310m" on the laptop info display label.
Sony has begun rolling out the 310m in their S series... -
u30jc is up for pre-order at xoticpc
-
http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-u30jca1-order-p-2763.html
I'm just a little confused because the picture of the computer doesn't look right... hmmmmmmm. -
-
-
Those pictures are not the correct pictures, they still don't have the final stats up from asus according to justin at xotic. Gentechpc now has it for preorder aswell and they have pictures that look closer to the pictures at ces, however they still have a lot of iffy specs like the pm45 listed and such, so my guess is their specs arent final yet either so I would wait until final specs are out before making any assumptions.
-
-
Any ideas on how thick the laptop will be since final specs aren't out yet? The thickness from the pics at CES seems pretty thick.
-
Has anyone heard back from xoticpc or gentechpc about confirmed final specs for the u30jc?
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
No but i hope it has a kool screen and kool build quality
-
I just found this page for the ASUS U30JC-QX022X when google searching (translated to english): http://translate.google.com/transla...BDgK&prev=/search?q=U30Jc&hl=en&sa=N&start=10
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
Neat, i7 processors! However, all still use the 310M :<
-
I also saw this translated page with pictures of the U30Jc taken at CES (this one says i5): http://translate.google.com/transla...AjgU&prev=/search?q=U30Jc&hl=en&sa=N&start=20
Also, check out this ASUS UX30-QX078X 13,3" (looks nice): http://www.asus.as/notebooky/notebooky-podle-modelu/ux-serie/ -
I wonder about batterylife, buildquality and displayquality...
-
I purchased the UL30VT-A1 from GenTech the day before they released the pre-order for the U30JC.
Upon calling yesterday to ask about refund options, I talked to a knowledgeable representative who said that they are not comparable machines. He said the U30JC is noticeably thicker and the battery life will be no more than four to five hours on battery saving with the screen brightness turned down. He said performance mode expect no more than two and a half hours.
Bummer.
Being skeptical at first, I checked a few international Asus websites and using translations they confirmed the battery life as four hours. -
The U30JC is in this CES 2010 vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHKVTsY7ox8
Near the end @ 4:42
ME LIKE!
For those asking for even more powah, check out the thread on the new N82Jv http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=456772 or these pictures http://pic.it.sohu.com/group-199345.shtml#g=199345&p=1687533
The best things come in small packages! -
Well if the n82jv comes out it kind of makes this laptop useless, it will have about the same cpu, wiht the integrated graphics but with a much much better graphics card, and same battery life you would think. Only thing you get out of this one is you save .7 lbs, or .3kgs. But then again if you want the lighter one it would probably make more sense waiting for a ul30jt which is even lighter, thinner and same graphics card but double battery life. God I hate having to make decisions, especially when it has to do with waiting.
4 hours seems really low to me, I have seen 6 cell batteries get 5-6 hours on a i5 with integrated graphics, why only 4 hours with a 8 cell. Actually now that i see those international sites, those come with i7's which im pretty sure uses more battery consumption then i3's so we might get better battery life then what it says there. Plus it seems like xoticpc has updated their site with pictures and changed the graphics spec and put battery life to 8 hours which is very good for an i3. -
thats odd, all the i3-i7 620m are all 35 watt, so how do they have diff batt life?
-
Available now for pre-order at xotic.
-
I have an e-mail into Ken @ GenTechPC asking about the keyboard, but from everything I can see it is NOT backlit. If ASUS stays true to form they will introduce a U30JC-B2 model in some weeks that will offer the backlit keyboard, Bluetooth, perhaps the i5 CPU, and a faster (or bigger) hard disk for $999 or so. Just my personal speculation, but based on their history.
-
the pictures from gentecPC and xotic look legit to me, correct me if im wrong but afaik, prior to the U30jc, the U/L/X series dont have ODDs
-
Heard back from Ken @ GenTechPC: the U30JC is due mid-March and does NOT have a backlit keyboard.
Yes the U series does currently have Optical Disk Drives, I have an U80V-B2, and the high end U20 does as well.
But the lack of a backlit keyboard is a deal breaker for me (I'm almost a geezer and don't see well in dim light like you young sprouts can), so I'll be waiting for the upgraded model... just hopefully not waiting too too long. -

This is a reply from ASUSTek Computer (Aust).
ASUS U30Jc's arrival date is yet to be confirmed. But once confirmed should be around mid-late April.
Stay tuned, we will post all the details on this product as soon as possible.
Thank you

Australia quite often gets delays of a month, along with excessive prices. I'm quite happy I'm going to be able to buy a new laptop while on vacation in the USA.
-
according to Justin they should come in by the 17 of march, so not too far off, and he confirmed that the do have asus's turbo boost thingy for 30% increase in performance. (woot!) which makes it about equal to similar i5 systems
-
FYI
“The new Core i5 processors are equipped with Turbo Boost (rev 2), so can increase their maximum frequency in certain situations. Turbo Boost works by shutting down unused execution cores and raising the CPU multiplier of those cores in use. By shutting down unused cores, the CPU doesn’t exceed its TDP or maximum power draw from the motherboard’s VRMs, so it’s a safe and power-efficient overclock that’s applied on the fly. The new range of Core i3 processors do not have Turbo Boost enabled, but the Core i5s do.”
Ref: www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3704 -
yes i agree, but asus has a overclock utility entitled turbo33 or somnething like that that OC's the i3 like %30 ish, so the processor speed is increased.
-
Is there a chance to have a model equipped with Mobility Radeon 5470?
It will be perfect, power + DirectX 11...
Really I don't like 310M, It's a shrink to 40nm without DX11 support
