Regarding SC2: I have played around 100 2v2 matches in the quick league - without much problems. In the longer games with 4xsupply maxed players in a battle at the same time, ofc. I get frame drops, but other than that there are no problems. Its very rare I get to play long enough to get 12 carriers etc.
I play on Medium settings, though I have disabled the "3D" icon/avatar in the bottom line since I dont watch that anyway :)

i play on low, you will get used to it.. from low to medium setting is the biggest jump. (low is very cartoon-y while medium is regular i guess :p )
for 1 vs 1, medium at its best. for 2 vs 2 and so forth, i would go with low just to reduce lag. Well it also depends on what league you are playing. Obviously lower league is slower so the games might run fine. But since im a high level diamond player, lag sometimes can cost me the game =/ Sometimes my 2 vs 2 are so damn laggy that i just want to quit and move on but i cant  so if you are going to play sc2 a lot, i suggest get a better comp with better gpu. Other than my sc2 annoyance, this laptop is fantastic =)

Well, don't be disappointed. The Acer 3820TG is a VERY nice laptop that has been getting very good user reports on its build (unlike previous Acers). Its 5650 has twice the graphic performance of the U35Jc's 310M so you should be able to run SC2 at High-Ultra settings.

The only downside I can see to the 3820TG is that its battery is smaller and so less battery life (6 cell/5 hrs vs 8 cell/8-9 hrs). But that can be fixed with an extra battery or a larger battery.

BTW, most I've read on this forum with the 310M are using Medium settings on SC2 with no problems unless they are online in large skirmishes. I don't play SC2 but that's what I seem to keep finding.

    Enjoy!

yeah medium should be fine with 1 vs 1 setting. BUt for 2 vs 2 and beyond, medium isn't going to settle it.

Hi folks, I'm debating between buying the U30JC and the U45JC, since the U45 is the newer model. However, the major differences I could see are the screen size, the HDD space and the extra 512MB in the Video card.
I don't particularly care about the screen size or the HDD, but how much would the extra 512MB matter for casual gaming? And would you recommend the U45 over the U30 knowing the issues with the high pitched whining that some users have noticed? Thanks..

The Nvidia 310 is bottlenecked more by the fact that it uses a 64 bit memory bus than say a 128 bit or larger. In the end having more memory will not benefit you with an increase in speed.

hey guys, im currently trying to plug in the hdmi cable into my sony tv kdl 46vl160 and its not working. I can get the sound from the tv but no source of image.. is it because of my gpu issue? (intel isnt supported and i need to switch to nvidia?) idk. I also tried my other computer (dell xps m1330) and it works perfectly fine so i know it isnt my tv or my hdmi cable.

any help is appreciated, im so frustrated =(

Go into your Nvidia control panel and tell it to use the Nvidia card and try it then.

Hi I have just got my U30JC.

I would like to know which programs that I should keep. I am deleting all of the Oberon Media stuff. Should I just open each app and decide if I need it?

Also the Hard drive only says I have 278GB. I am assume that the remaining 20-40GB is the hidden recovery partition. I would actually like this space for files instead of recovery, how do I go about deleting it?

I have tried the command prompt at start up but it only allowed me to create 278gb partition.

I am assuming you have a 320gb HDD here, which is actually only 298gb once bits are turned into bytes in computer language. The missing 20gb is a hidden recovery partition created by Asus. If you feel you do not need this and have a copy of windows 7 OEM or retail laying around you can do a restore and wipe it. Or use one of the partition combine programs that exist out there. Unfortunately this partition cant be merged within the disc management section of windows. You would have to use a program to delete it and combine it. Make sure if you do that though that you burn your recovery discs(unless you got one from your reseller).

    What I have done is...

I used Ultimate Boot CD to delete both partitions.
Then used Parted Magic to create a complete partition.
Finally I download a copy of Windows 7 using the iso link from here ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html).

    So far all going swimmingly.

    Interesting observations:
Two separate Win XP discs refused to work (crashing)
Gparted didn't want to load, Parted Magic worked fine

Glad you got the repartitioning to work for you.

Odd that GParted wouldn't load for you. Must be the version you're using (I've about 4 disc versions on file, not all work well). I use GParted on my U30Jc-A1 with no problems.

Typically, I used GParted to repartition and format my HDD's before installing an OS. Works great on my U30.

Now all works, just finished installing the recommended ASUS stuff again. Although some stuff like Trend Micro (I have a license for SOPHOS) and ASUS webstorage were not included.

Do you think I need to flash it or update the graphics drivers?

I have U30JC-B1 (I am in the UK had to import it)

What driver version are you using? I tried the beta 8.0.7.0 drivers but had some issues. I went back to the default 7.0.5.10 drivers. They work fine for me after a bit of tweaking in options.

I did need to lower the sensitivity in the PalmTracking section.

But your loss of touchpad sensitivity in the lower 5mm is normal, depending on your settings. That area in the lower 5mm and left & right 5mm is for extra scrolling gestures that were there with the beta 8.0.7 drivers but not the default ones. So that area is just dead on mine as well.

My touchpad works well for me (except for that outer left & right & bottom edges.)

I was going to get the M11x R1 but due to many problems such as the 'hinge' issue and the support for the drivers have stoped I have decided to find another laptop. The Asus U30JC-B1 attracted me, it is basically the same as U35JC just without the 500GB and slimmer and of course the B1 includes a disk drive.

I will be purchasing the U30JC-B1 at either £555 or £585, wondering is that a rip off or a good deal and its new of course!

Also I didn't wanna go through 180pages to find answers for certain games playability. So I was wondering how Bad Company 2, GTA 4 will run? I've seen some videos on youtube with the same specs or a weaker i3 cpu performing nicely with the G310M. And I wanted the opinions of the already owned U30JC owners and is there any heat difference between the A1 and B1 since the B1 owns a disk drive?

However, if anyone can recommend any 11.6 - 13.3inch laptop with better specs at around £600 ($977) it would be nice of you :D!

    Thanks, Philo!

Using elantech drivers, are you able to highlight a world by double clicking and then drag to select words only by tapping and dragging on the touchpad? i.e. triple-tap to highlight and then drag to select/highlight successive words one word at a time?

If you don't know what I mean, use your touchpad "button" to highlight a word in the middle of this sentence by double clicking, and then continue to move left and right to highlight neighboring words a word at a time. Now try the equivalent using the tap functions on the touchpad.

I'm having a problem where I cannot carry out that specific function using any kind of elantech driver.

I'm having some problems using the hibernate function. When i try to switch it on, it doesn't seem to get to hibernate, or at least the laptop seems to get into it, but after seconds i see the log on screen from windows. Does this problem occur to some of you and what have you done to fix it? It's a very anoying problem, thanks in advance though.

    1) Is your notebook for sure setup to use hibernation? (I think it is by default on Win 7.)

    2) Have you set up your Fn+F1 (sleep/hibernation hotkey) to hibernat instead of sleep or shut down?

Right click on your power icon in the lower right > Power Options > "Choose what closing the lid does" > "When I press the sleep button" (be sure this reads "Hibernate".

I just got this laptop a few days ago after dreaming of it for weeks. I haven't used it much yet, but it seems pretty darn sweet. My only worry was whether I'd have the right sound card for recording "What U Hear"/Stereo Mix, but based on a response in this thread, I determined it must have what I need--and, after testing it soon after receiving it, I do believe my needs are met. Thanks to all who have posted information about this laptop here. It's wonderful to know about products before I purchase them.

Quick question. I am using the nvidua drive 258.96 advised before in this thread. Nvidia has newer drivers on their website "notebook verde drivers"
Does it support optimus or is my current version the last one?

One day, I accidentally uninstalled the stock Audio driver, so I reinstalled a random one (perhaps one from a different model of ASUS or one from the RealTek website, I can't remember) but it got a better sound output, especially from the speakers. So I am assumign the software is preventing the speakers from playing any louder than it should. Anyone wanna share their experiences (if they have done this) and see which works best?

i thought the speakers are really weak just cause the way its designed. (below the laptop instead on the surface) i dont believe drivers can produce different sound output but i can be wrong.

on a 2nd note.. recently when my laptop wakes up from hibernation or sleep (not sure)

my control for brightness doesnt work... fn+ f5 orf6. Is this because driver issue or windows 7? I have to restart computer in order to solve thsi problem

The latest is 260.99. Works fine on my U30Jc-A1. They all support Optimus now.

Your ATK drivers control that hotkey. You may want to reinstall your ATK drivers. If you go over to the ASUS driver page for the U30Jc, there are some newer ATK drivers. Be sure to reinstall all 6 of them.

By benchmark, I assume you mean 3DMark06?

Because 3DMark06 is mostly doing its test based on the power of the GPU and the U35Jc's 310M is stock-clocked lower than the U30Jc's 310M.

So the U35Jc will net you around 3400 in 3DMark06 while the U30Jc gets you about 3700.

There are different guesses out there as to why the U35Jc's 301-M is clocked lower than the 310M in the U30Jc (some say different quality/speed of VRAM in the two units.)

    Make sense?

Yes it does, but I was wondering which performs overall better? Does the CPU boost it up a little bit? Although the speed isn't much difference in the CPU.

no the difference between the gpu is so minor that you are not going to notice anything significantly different in games.
On a side note, lately i have been noticing that sound has been distorted a lot .. and i just received BSOD. =/ all i have done rencently is uninstall atk drivers and took out battery so im just charged constantly. Anyone knows why this is happening to me?
Also, i have like 85 processor running. Isnt that way too much?

    thank you all

I'm running 79 processes and my laptop seems to be fine.

BTW, when I overclocked enough to get over 4,400 in 3DMark06, I did notice some game improvement where frame rate was pushed. And 4,400 is a big difference from the stock 3,400 of the U35/U33Jc.

My current Intel Display Audio is 6.14.0.3072 (not the same as yours)
My current Realtek Hi-Def Audio is 6.0.1.6029 (same as yours)

You need to have your ATK drivers installed, all 6 of them. Did you reinstall your ATK drivers that you uninstalled?

Why would you use your laptop without your battery? You will not increase your battery life by doing that and you could cause other problems like heating.

okay i shall go update that. Through intel right? Cause obviously windows update think my drivers are up to date  Yeah i just reinstalled them back recently cause i was being lazy. I have been using my laptop without battery cause 1) it would somewhat save the life of my battery vs charging then unplugging and the process cycles. Also i haven't been moving my laptop much, been using it more as a desktop.

i saw that deal and got pretty hurt :( just a 3 month ago and it was 850+ lost 200 dollars in 3 month.. that hurts :( :(
