    Hello -

I apologize if this is the wrong forum.

I recently bought an Asus U35F-X1 for my son to use at school (HS). When I set it up the display resolution was 1366x768, which is native to the hardware. It looked great. Yesterday, when I looked at the display, it was set to 1024x768, but when I tried to reset it, there is no longer an option above 1024x768.

What happened to 1366x786? I tried downloading new drivers, but the driver update software claims everything is up to date. This laptop has integrated video hardware.

I am pulling my hair out. (my frustration is greater because it no longer seems possible to simply search for drivers and download them like in the old days. Now you have to download some "scanning" application, etc, etc)

    Thanks in advance!

You are in the right place, I know what you mean about drivers and that scanning junk. I get all mine from ASUS here
    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx

I just tried it and it appears to be down. You do not have to login on that site, just put in
    Notebook
    U35
U35-X1 then click search, fill in your OS (I assume win 7) and you will see a huge list.
If you open personalization, display ... Can you move the slider or is 1024 X the max available?

Thanks for your response. 1024x768 is the max available. At some point between when I set the computer up (xmas morning) and now, something has happened. This is what happens when a 14 year old operates a laptop unsupervised!

    For example:

When I download the HD graphic drivers from Asus (I was finally able to accomplish this), they won't install, giving me a message "unable to update registry". Ditto when I tried to install the chipset drivers. I was also unable to revert to a previous "recovery point" - I get the message "recovery failed" without explanation.

Anyway, I am steadily losing progress today, each step seems to create more problems then it solves.

    tbanks for you help!

First I would create another account on the computer and make sure it is administrator. Then login with the new account, and open device manager - display adapt. - right click the entry and properties, & look at the driver tab.
If the display is stlll not right , try roll back driver assuming it is not Greyed out. Let me know, glad to help.

Miracle of miracles! As you suggested, I reviewed the driver status for the graphics chipset, and I noticed that it said "unable to verify sign..." (hadn't noticed that before) Ah ha! First I tried to update, but that is based on the driver date, which was current. Then I tried to rollback just the graphics driver. Success!! After much grinding away and a reboot, glorious 1366x768!!

Thanks muchly, its possible I would have gotten there eventually on my own, but your suggestion saved me many hours of frustration.

I use Zone Alarm - not what came bundled with the machine, which was Trend-something. I have been happy with Zone Alarm on several systems over the years.

I am not actually sure if that includes a spyware scanner, I will double check, and if not, I would typically install Spybot Search and Destroy.

Switch to MS security essentials. Just as good, and not as resource intensive or intrusive.
