Got a question about my U36. I'm kinda scared its been getting too hot. on the right side of the trackpad, right where my wrist lays, the case alloy looks and feels different. kind of hard to describe so ill do my best - it looks almost as if its a burn from overheating components underneath. the area is dark black and fades into the matte black. when rubbing my finger across, i can feel my finger slow down as it hits the damaged area. heres the best picture i can get... i know its hard to tell the damaged area due to my y phone camera, but pay attention to the darker area. the current damage isnt causing any issues, but if it is infact melting, i need to know of course. thanks!

how old is your laptop? I think it could possibly be the nanometer coating coming off.

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Not the best pic, true, but that looks very much like simple contact wear on the finish from your wrist. Contact wear will alter both the finish and texture of painted plastics, which is what you're feeling with your finger.
The internal heat generated, even in the ultrabook market, isn't nearly enough to warp plastic or esp alloy.
According to the U36 disassembly manual, the HDD is directly underneath the right rest. The heat you're feeling is being generated by that, and should be most noticeable when you've been doing something that's access-intensive.
Nothing to worry about. All you're experiencing is normal. -
alright perfect. i got the laptop over last thanksgiving so its really not that old. i do push it playing a couple graphics-intensive games, but as been said above, the gpu is not under that portion of the computer. appreciate the quick responses. no need to worry now.
