Hi,
Thinking of buying a laptop for my dad. He needs a relatively light laptop, windows OS, and an optical drive. Uses it only for browsing the internet, processing documents, and videos.
So far my choices (before the Asus was added) are:
Lenovo X220 but then I found out it doesn't have an optical drive.
Sony Vaio VPCSB11FXB
Samsung Samsung NP350U2B-A01.
With Asus in the race, I was thinking of the U36SD. But then some of them say U36SD-A1, and some say U36SD-DH51. What's the difference?

the only difference i see is that the dh51 has the better cpu. i5-2430 vs 2410

Yup just as King Khan said.
Intel recently refreshed all the second gen core i CPU's and as Asus starts using these they are renaming their models to reflect the new CPU. The only change for most of these models is the CPU -
So is the U36SD-DH51 a good laptop? Can you guys recommend it?
-
If it's the same price, go for it. That extra 1.0GHz won't be much difference, I would imagine.

i own A1, and i should say it's a good laptop over all
i used it to do almost anything, play BF3, MW3, Skyrim. all works ( but of course fairly low - medium settings )
of course your dad isnt going to play games like those
but upgrade it to SSD Sata3 and upgrade the RAM to 8gb, he will in love it -
Sorry for digging an old thread, but is there a way to install 16gb in it? I5 2430 supports it, there is two slots in it so I assume it works??
And another question is does it support SATA6Gbps (SATA3)?
I'm buying it today so I'm quite excited
Thanks -
yes i believe it supports 16gb of ram. I dont see how you would need it though. I have 8 and its plenty

And if I install 1600MHz, will it run on 1600 or on 1333MHz? Cause official support is 1066/1333MHz
