they are still trying to get rid of current supplies. Asus volume is relatively small so they can only release mainstream refreshes first. the rest have to wait.

Ah, alright, it looks like it was released in some places(Australia?).

    Thanks for the replies.

U3Sg is certainly available in Australia, I bought mine yesterday.

Nice little 'hot' beast but still suffers from shocking battery life. Supplied with a 3 Cell and 6 Cell battery (1 & 2 hours, strectable to 'and a bit'), have a 9 Cell on backorder so guessing 3-3.5 hrs then. But that just makes it as heavy as my R61 that runs for 4 hours. Still got a bit of tweaking so might be able to strech it a tad further.

Strangely only scores 3.5 in the 'Windows Experience' even with the 9300, whilst my Lenovo R61 brick scores 4.0 (both with video causing the low score). But as I don't play games that doesn't bother me 1 bit and who really cares about the performance for 'Aero'.

Apart from that rather pleased with it.

    Hrrrrmmm, not very enticing then.

Does the U3sg have the modular video card like its predecessor? On the ASUS site it says that it has the 9300 on the spec sheet but on the model sheet it says it has switchable graphics but does not state anything else...

In addition to coriolis' request, are your battery times based on running the 6-cell with dedicated 9300 gpu and/or what lcd brightness, wifi, etc?

The spec sheets at Asus.com for both the U3S and U3Sg both only mention dedicated gpu and omit the x3100, so I'm presuming that they left the dual graphics intact..... The fact that Speed & Power Saving LED status indicators are still listed on the -Sg spec sheet gives me hope, but confirmation would be nice.

I'm wondering whether this model will pull me away from the XPS1330 I've been considering as the replacement, when mine gets handed off to my pre-K daughter in a few months; I figure maybe it will be stateside by then.

    Hi

Yes the U3Sg has the switch on the side to switch between the 9300 and X3100 along with the LED to remind you which you've selected.

Battery times are just a quick test with the 3 cell at 1hr being 9300, Wlan on and about 50%, while with the X3100 it was around 1.5hrs with LCD at around 30%.

The 6 cell was basically an additional hour. Though haven't had the time to really test them yet. Might get some time to play more over the next few days.

I did look at the XPS1330, but seen to many dead Dells and the HDMI, eSATA etc are great features on the Asus (those features tipping me over from all others brands I looked at).

Should mention the 9300 comes in at 4.5 in the WIndows Experience for Gaming Graphics (3.5 for he X3100).

It was listed to have Vista Home Premium, but it had Ultimate installed (also on CD instead of stored on the HDD thankfully).

I've almost installed everything I need and I haven;t even plug in the external drive.

Don't get me wrong coriolis, it's still a very nice notebook, I was just hoping for better battery life but seems to be identical to the U3S at this stage.

Will try and play more and get further details over the next few days.

I'm still interested in the U3sg, it's just that I was hoping they'd get their battery selection up to par, which it doesn't look like it did.

While I know the 9 cell exists, the 6 cell is already 1.5"~ swollen when used, the 9 will....well... :(

Nonetheless, I'm quite set on purchasing it....once it comes out!
