    Hi,
I've been wondering about upgrading the CPU in my BB's version U-81a. I had previously upgraded my P7805-u to a P9600 from my P8400 that was installed so I had a spare CPU floating around.

Since these are GS45 I figured it should support it and I was right. I now have 2.26 GHz and runs at 28c idle. Synthetic benchmarks show about 10% increase too. I haven't had it in long enough yet to see what impact there is to the battery life though.

It doesn't feel significantly snappier but there is a slight improvement in multitread and I'd guess this is the 3 Meg L2 compared to the 2 Meg's before. Conversions from RAW and building in Visual Studio get somewhat of a boost but nothing major.

I am guessing with a P9700 you could get a great boost but how much money to throw at these in search of performance gains is the question. Just know we apparently do have options...........

So after about 30 minutes of cruising the web I opened HWMonitor, so the first pic is that then I ran Prime96 64 bit for a bit over 20 minutes for the second pic and then after about 5 minutes of being idle the third pic. I am not thrilled with the therm temp, but that is something to look into later.....

Just a heads up to those interested, I swapped out my P9600 from my Gateway and that works fine as well. Both function overclocked well too.
