Just bought the amazing U81A at Best Buy today. Have done a fresh install of Windows 7 RC1 x64 and it runs perfectly with the laptop's supplied drivers (for Vista x64).

However, I've run into an odd HDMI issue that I was hoping I could recieve some input on. While my HDMI port will see and properly use my workstation's LCD display with a HDMI-to-DVI cable, it will NOT see nor use my HDTV (47" Toshiba Regza from last year) connected to either directly to it or through my Sony reciever. I'm running the latest Intel (Windows 7) drivers and still no dice. It didn't even work when I attempted the connection after the laptop's first boot and initial setup (before even removing any junk software).

Any input on this? Drivers don't see the HDTV nor can I manually detect or switch to it using the display switch function key.

    Thanks in advance.

Check Intel's website to see if there's a newer set of drivers for your 4500MHD integrated graphics.

No, there doesn't seem to be anything newer for Windows 7. Running the latest revision of the drivers. They install perfectly fine and everything works, but still no HDMI function to my home theather setup.

I just thought I might interject and tell you to enjoy your very sexy machine...I've been working with this laptop at Best Buy for a few weeks now, but I only just took a close look at it and messed around with it today and I never realized how sleek it was...I'm definitely going to start recommending it more...

I just hope that HDMI issue isn't common, but good luck with it and let us know if you find a solution...

Thanks for the solution well-wishes. Yeah, the guy I had pull the laptop off the shelf had no idea what it was, but thought it was amazing at first glance. The U80 and U81 look like the lovechild of a Vaio FW and a MacBook in some ways, at least to me. I've already recommended them to other friends of mine who are seeking laptops for college. For the price, they're amazing. I do wish the U81 had its more powerful sister' backlit keyboard.

Still looking for a solution to my HDMI problem, although I've been entertaining the thought that my home theater system might just have had a sudden, spontaneous bout of fail.
