Sounds like a software problem...
Try updating or reinstalling the audio driver. Check support.asus.com for updated versions. -

read my last posts THATS a problem and what u have is nothing mate nothing
i aint got it back yet! by the way...
1 month onwards of repairs! never ever ever Ever! .... EvEr!
i have already contacted lawyer and trade standart agency with all evidence and proof needed they said if laptop going to mulfunction again we will press charges . to get refund -
Well...
I'm having the same problem as you guys. "no sound thru the speaker and the sound is working fine with the headphones plugged in".
This laptop has not been harmed in any way and the speakers sound disappeared after a normal use. I tried every update possible (bios, drivers etc), I even reinstalled vista (another piece of work!!) on a spare HD...Nothing worked out and I finally got a RMA.
Then, the laptop went back to Asus.. They didn't bother to figure out what was the precise problem: they just replaced the whole motherboard in about one week -shipping comprised- (that was fast!). It worked fine for few weeks and tonight, again, I'm getting the same exact problem: no sound thru the speaker and the sound is working fine with the headphones plugged-in.
Now, I'm getting frustrated with it. I'd like to claim a refund for this high end lapcrap that I paid a fortune...damned I should have bought a main stream dell...XPS M1530...
PS: I've just updated the Bios to version 301 recently available on asus site. This should solve some sound issues..But I still have the same problem. the speakers are remaining silent (they were not sounding very good anyway!). Damned. -
If you're using ASUS audio drivers, use those from Realtek (or whoever is manufacturing your particular audio card).
Or the other way around.
See if that fixes the issue. -
Yes I tried that too and everything else that I could have thought of
-reinstalling realtek drivers from asus (old) and from realtek (newer)
-updating BIOS
-system roll back to previous restore points
-New install of vista on a spare HD...
Nothing helped. I returned it a first time to Asus that changed the motherboard to solve the issue and it worked for few weeks...and now...two days ago AGAIN...the buit-in speakers are dead and the headphones OK
I sent a email to asus to claim a refund. They answered me to call them instead...I'll call them twomorrow...let see if they'll accept that.
So far Asus customer service/support has been very fast and good with me! -
I'm sorry to hear that. What if you start the notebook in a Live Linux distro? Does the sound work properly?
If so, then you can eliminate hardware as the cause. Otherwise, it's pretty sure it's hardware.
UGH broken sound v1s-b1
