Like many here I'm waiting on the UL30JT, but am concerned that although it looks perfect on paper it might be let down by a second rate screen.
Well, by most accounts that's the case with the current UL series. No-one seems greatly impressed with the contrast and horizontal viewing angles. Such a pity when part of its appeal is the GPU.
Does anyone know if this is likely to improve in the new series?

I would say that it is unlikely there will be an improvement. It seems the quality of LCDs is not much of a priority in sub $1,000 notebooks. The recent U30JCs screen has had mixed reviews, but overall sounds to be the same as the UL series.
That said, I do not think the screens are terrible. I have had time to play with the UL30VT and that screen looked fine in normal use, especially after tweaking the color settings. The only noticeable limitations were the viewing angles. -
i personally find their screens ok. I kinda like the fact someone sitting next to you has a hard time seeing what your doing
. But yeh they should improve screen quality in newer series. I mean the screen will get better because of prices going to be dropping over time and upgrades of screens, but it is a downfall for some. Dont know how soon it is that the improvement will be made.

Even >15" screen are of 1366x768 resolution
Display being the most interactive component of laptop it should have BEST quality, ie, Full HD.

Resolution, in this case, is a red herring. The consensus complaint seems to be the horizontal viewing angle is so poor, contrast changes if you nod your head. I haven't had first hand experience with it, so I'm only repeating what I've read.
I'd like to hear I'm wrong. -
I got the colors to look nice when working with Nvidia card but Intel version looks hideous. -
You should think of the positive side of things... you don't need a 3M privacy filter because the viewing angles are that bad
