A3B has the same battery as the X5. The difference is it has a license for Windows 7 Professional and comes with Windows XP Professional pre-installed. It even comes with less memory and a smaller hard drive than the X5. I would've essentially paid more than $100 (once you take into account the cost for upgrading the HD and RAM) for a Windows license I don't need.

Tell me about it. Closest I got was Provantage, but it didn't seem like the correct model. I'm actually strongly considering purchasing a UL50VT instead of the U50VG just so I can get the higher capacity battery for my UL30A. Oh well, we'll see them sooner or later. Probably later rather than sooner - the laptops are fairly new. From the sticker on the battery's plastic bag, it seems like the following models all use the same battery:
    UL30
    UL50
    UL80
    X8B
    X5G
    PRO32
    PRO8B
    PRO5G
    X32

I tried searching the ASUS estore for all the above model numbers but have come up empty.

I'm curious about the cost of spare batteries also. Of course, I probably will never actually *need* one given the epic battery life of the UL30xx. However, it is still nice to know.

    Speaking of mobility:
I was considering buying a Macbook at one point, and really appreciating the magsafe connector. But when you think about it, the UL30xx doesn't even *need* to be plugged in away from the desk most of the time, so tripping over cords is a non-issue!

    A question:
Does anyone know what type of power adaptor the UL30xx uses? I prefer to buy a spare to be kept in my travel bag, so that when I'm ready to go, I just have to throw my laptop and mouse in my bag, without having to fish the cord out from under my desk. If you haven't tried this already, I would *highly* recommend it. It's a little thing that improves user-experience in a BIG way. Anyway, if anyone has any model numbers, that would be great!

Oddly, I've seen only the 6 cell battery for the UL30A, and thats about $129 MSRP USD. $149 Canadian.

Did you see that on xoticpc? I think that's where I saw it when I was doing my search. It's odd because they have the option to BUY a spare battery when you customize the UL30A...but I don't see it for sale separately. I sent them an email hopefully they'll respond monday.

They just call it the Smart Ion battery or something like that... not very specific

Well, the canadian dollar is strong right now (which is why I sprung at the v450), so it's closer to $139CDN. Still quite expensive for a 6-cell. I can only wonder how much the 8-cell costs.

How much would a replacement power-adapter/charger cost? Having a spare is a must for me.

    For battery:

    UL30A 6-cell battery
    Part # 90-NWT3B3000Y
    UPC: 884840017554
    MSRP: $129
    Warranty: 1 Year

For adapter, though I don't know about compatiability. The stock UL30 one is quite anemic from what I see.

    90 Watt AC adapter: (All models, except A7, G2, G50/G51, G70, G71, X71, F70, N70, N90, W90)
    Part # 90-XB04N0PW00040Y
    UPC: 884840015086
    MSRP: $49
    Warranty: 1 Year

I don't see where it says the X5 comes with a 2-year global warranty. I think people are mistaken, the extra $100 is for battery life AND an extra year warranty. Is that not a good deal?

    Its called Asus UL30A-QX165V

Now, they clame u have up to 11 h of battery life. Ive had this sugar now for 4 days and NEVER ever was I near 11h. For exempel, right now Im on power4gear battery with lowest setting on screenlight, wireless on and surfing the net, battery life says 8h and 14 mins. And I have been surfing already for 15 min.

Then again, I didnt, and I think not many of u as well, didnt purchase this lovedoll just for sitting on battery save mode just to get as many hours of battery out of urs UL30. =))

Im really happy with my new purchase
