Tempted to get UL30Vt-X1K for $540 ... or it is better wait for Sandy Bridge replacement as this SU7300 is getting too outdated, two generations old. What do you think?

It really depends on when do you want it. If you can wait a couple more months, definitely go with the SNB refresh. SU7300 is simply way too underpowered for a lot of programs.

But of course, if you have to have the laptop soon, UL30VT might be your only choice.

Thanks. I can wait no problem. But actually I would use the notebook for browsing internet only, say 20 tabs in new firefox at max, may be with one or two MS Word or Excel files opened and Outlook running at the same time and/or some .pdf opened in foxit reader. So IMO sandy bridge i5 or i3 will be overkill for my needs...

A lot of people don't think browsing web uses CPU power. It does, quite a lot actually. If you're playing any sort of Flash content (streaming music, video, etc), you'll see your CPU utilization shoots up.

But if most of your tabs are just text based, then SU7300 shouldn't be a problem. But if you can wait a bit, why not spend a little bit more to make sure you wouldn't run into CPU bottlenecks?

Agreed, thanks. Better to wait sandy bridge and then decide. At that time there should be further discount on the old model.
