    Hey all,

I've found the ASUS threads on this site super helpful so I'm really hoping someone will have some ideas here.

I picked up a 2x4GB Corsair RAM upgrade for my UL30vt-x1. It's got the right timings (7-7-7-20) and speed (1066Mhz).

After installing, though, the machine won't boot (or even get to post). I get a blank screen and the Caps Lock and Num Lock lights are both on.

I've tested the memory in another machine, as well as tried some other 2GB chips in the UL30 and everything worked fine. It just will not boot with a 4GB SODIMM installed (in either slot, or in any combination with the old RAM).

Any thoughts? Everything I've read suggests there's no problem putting 8GB into this computer.

If it helps, the model # of the new RAM is CMSA8GX3M2A1066C7.

    Thanks!

    Chuck

Can you try with another pair of 4GB SODIMMs? If you have a friend who has some, i'D start by trying that. I've seen a case where corsair RAM wasn't playing nice with an Asus motherboard. Happened only once, but it might be worth looking into.

You can also check the owner's thread to see if someone else managed to get 8GB in there.

    Thanks for the reply, tijo.

I got a different pair of SODIMMs and they work perfectly. The Corsairs pose no problem in any of the other notebooks around the office so it must be some freak incompatibility. Weird!

RAM problems always are, i've seen a couple of instances of Asus not playing nice with Corsair RAM. Also there is always the extremely rare random oddity of components that should be 100% compatible not working together.
