I've been looking at this laptop mainly because of it's battery life, good price and great warranty

I'll be doing some light gaming, web surfing, word docs, lots of iTunes and maybe a little video encoding.

I'm not really in on the Asus circle but it seems as though there are some newer models coming out. Will the U30VT have a price drop or has it already dropped since the announcement of the new models? Is there any reason I should get a different model with the 310m(As far as I'm aware, the difference to the 210m is minuscule)?

Also one of my main concerns..Will the SU7300 C2D 1.3 Ghz have any performance issues? I currently have an AMD turion X2 TL-60 2.0ghz notebook w/ 3gb ddr2 ram and it feels kind of slow to me. The C2D seems to have a much larger L2 cache with a lower TDP :D. But, I expect the 4gb 1066mhz memory to also contribute to an improved computing experience.

My current notebook is a dv6910us. It doesn't work very well anymore..
Recommendations of other laptops with similar specs and value are also welcome.

The warranty will ensure this laptop lasts for 2 years, which is how long I'll need it to work for. After that, I'll probably upgrade to something more powerful.

No, it'll be fine. I've got an su2300 (the celeron version of the SU4100/SU7300) and even with 1mb cache, it is quite snappy. Obviously not the same as running an 720qm, but it's quite fast. Even better, the UL30vt does factory overclock to 1.7ghz. Check out the passmark score on PassMark Software - CPU Benchmarks - List of Benchmarked CPUs to compare it to a t7700 or t8300, the cpu used in the macbook pros. You'll notice that it's ~1000, while the MBPs are ~1400. And that's at half the clock speed.

I guess my point is that it's very fast for a 1.3ghz processor, and with the 210m you'll be able to do light gaming with ease! (Also, stellar battery performance).

One thing - you can't really compare cache sizes outside processor lines, and it isn't even remotely the same between AMD and intel.

I bought my UL30VT-A1 a little over a month ago and I honestly couldn't be happier with my purchase. The SU7300 (especially when 'Turbo' mode is enabled, bringing the CPU speed to 1.7 GHz) is surprisingly fast for its relatively low clock speed and I have not been able to overwork it with normal use yet.

I also do light gaming (i.e. - I don't care about maxed out detail settings) and the performance is admirable. I have played Borderlands, CoD: MW2, and the Starcraft 2 Beta on Med - Med/High settings smoothly, and WoW on mostly High settings.

And lastly, battery life has been as-advertized. I get a run time of slightly over 10 hours while surfing the internet, and almost 4 hours of gaming (which is remarkable).
