    Hello all,

I've had my UL50VT since January of 2010. It's been a great system, but recently the system started to turn off without any battery notification when Windows was displaying the charge level at 70%ish so I figured a new battery was in order.

I ordered a new third-party (non Asus brand) battery off of eBay to save some money and have had no luck at all with it. The system repeatedly says that no battery is recognized. The system will sometimes power up off of this new replacement battery so I know it's not bad... I suspect there is some sort of configuration or driver issue, but I have no idea what it is and it's driving me insane.

Has anyone else bought a third party battery and successfully installed it? I'd appreciate some advice.

Batteries do not need drivers to operate. However, some will have built-in chips that communicate with the ACPI. My recommendation is to return your third party battery and get a genuine one from Asus.

Yeah, if it doesn't work, it's because the battery doesn't work. End of story.
