    Hi Everyone,

I purchased an Asus UL50Vt-A1 in November 2009, and now every time I close the lid I lose power to the system. It doesn't sleep or hibernate, it completely loses power, and hitting the power button does nothing to turn it back on. If I unplug the AC power, and remove and reinstall the battery I can get it to start again, but only until the next time I close the lid. Then I have to repeat the whole process.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Any idea where I should begin to troubleshoot this? I'm guessing if I contact Asus I'll have to send it in, so I was hoping to avoid that.

I'd appreciate any guidance. Thanks a lot,

    Steve

I would say its just a software issue.

are you using power4 gear? or maybe change settings for when you close the lid?

I played with all the settings for closing the lid, and no matter what it was on as soon as the lid got about halfway closed I lost power. Power4Gear hybrid is installed, but I just leave it on High Performance and haven't touched it. Maybe I'll give than an uninstall and see what happens.

I'm really hoping it's software, it just bothers me that I have to remove the battery to get the power button to function again.

    Thanks.

It's more like of an interferance between the cables connecting the screen and the cables of the power. Now, the mystery is why do you have to remove the battery...?

I've had the exact same thing on my ul50vt-x1 before I sold it. It turned out to be a cable/connection/grounding issue, because as soon as I disconnected the webcam cable, the issue was fixed.
To do that, remove your keyboard by propping the little slits on top of the keyboard with a flathead screw driver. Then push an exposed connector at the upper left hand corner (close to the fan) until it is disconnected.
If you still have warranty, explain it and get it RMA'd. Otherwise you sorta just have to liver without a webcam.

Thanks for the info! The problem has become intermittent but still super annoying. It should be under warranty so I'll RMA it. I guess I should wipe it before I send all my personal info to Asus...

    Thanks again!
