I noticed a rather odd issue with my Asus UL80VT when I have an external monitor connected to it.

At times the monitor will start slightly flickering whenever I move the mouse or when the HDD is busy.
At first I thought it may be the power connection or one of the external devices, but I already changed the socket and disconnected all devices, but the flicker still occurs.

Any idea if switching from VGA to HDMI might help with such an issue or is this more likely caused by the Laptop, so that the cable wouldn't make a difference?

UPDATE: I noticed the flicker is almost non-existing if the Laptop runs on battery. It looks like the problem is caused when both, the Laptop & Monitor, are powered through the same power socket.
