    I am still learning before I buy this $700 laptop!

    I have NEVER owned a laptop before-

    Can or does, this laptop have the capability to run things like a FIREWIRE 400 or 800 Express card module or PCMCIA type of card in it?

    If so that would help me with some expansion and video capturing.

    Is there actually a express card USB 3.0 that will run 3.0 on a machine that only has capability to run 2.0???

    Thank you!

    Hello Elembytes2, the UL80VT-A1 does not have any of the ports that you listed. The available ports on it are
    * 1 x Microphone-in jack
    * 1 x Headphone-out jack (S/PDIF)
    * 1 x VGA port/Mini D-sub 15-pin for external monitor
    * 3 x USB 2.0 ports
    * 1 x RJ45 LAN
    * 1 x HDMI
    * 5 in 1 card reader, SD,MMC,MS, MS-Pro, XD
    There is not an express card slot on this model so you will not be able to add USB 3.0 down the road

    Thanks Hutsady:

    Gosh- now I am really messed up. I really like the UL80VT, but what do you recommend that I get then? I want something that is like this, but isn't OLD technology or soon to be outdated, want some capability to grow, have an optical drive and costs around $700- any great ideas out there? I like the ultra thin and long battery life on the UL80VT.

    The cheapest Asus laptop with USB 3 is the U33JC, but it still does not have firewire nor an express card slot. Like the UL series, it still lacks an optical drive as well.

    If you're looking for something with USB 3 and an optical drive, take a look at the Asus U43JC-A1. It's a few hundred dollars over your budget, but at the same time it does have newer hardware compared to the UL80VT.

    The more I think about it, I can do away with the USB 3.0- won't serve me too well as most items I have are 2.0 anyway- and the Express card slot is nice because I could put a firewire card into that slot and at least connect my dv video camera to it and do some light edit work. Decisions are hard to make when you are watching your dollars carefully! Thanks David!
