I've been reading a lot about the UL laptops as they appear to have the specs I'm looking for and great battery life. The switchable graphics is a very nice feature, as well as the overclocked CPU.

What I'm torn on though is which one to buy. I currently have an older thinkpad T40 and the 14" screen seems fine. The number pad on the side though seems like a nice feature for the UL50. The concern on the UL50 though is if the weight and size are a big deal when it comes to portability. We travel some, the portability will primarily be for around the house though.

I can't find anywhere that I can see both laptops side-by-side to compare myself. Best Buy has the UL50AG listed online, but they don't have any in the local stores.

Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts that might help? thanks!

The number pad is a great feature. If you're willing to forgo the numberpad and the DVD-ROM, you may want to consider the upcoming UL30VT. It's little more than a rumor, as ASUS lists it on their service site including drivers and bios downloads.

If you want the DVD-ROM, I don't think you can go wrong with either. But take note. The UL50VT is really wide/long. If you look at the specs, you'll notice that it's something like 15.5" wide I have a large backpack that barely fits my inspiron 15 at 14.5". It would not be able to hold my UL50Vt as it's at least an inch longer when closed!

This is the primary reason I can't consider the UL50Vt. It looks like a wonderful machine, it's just too big to be portable enough for what I'm looking for, number pad or not. You'd need quite a large bag!

    }:^)~

That's some good information, thank you!

I prefer to have the DVD drive, so the UL30 isn't in consideration. The biggest question is forgoing the numberpad for smaller size... Knowing the size is that large, I guess I'm leaning toward the UL80.
