I only realized the reality I was facing a few minutes ago, and the thought is terrifying.

I remember a few years back when I bought an item from the US, it was shipped through UPS. I was charged huge brokerage fees, almost 75% of the item.

I ordered via Gentech and it's already off-hours for them. I was wondering did anyone else from Canada buy from gentech. If so, what type of service did you receive from UPS?

Mine was delivered via USPS/canada post, so the guy took $5 at the door. If you insist on getting it shipped with UPS (it's maybe a 2 days faster at clearing customs) then either get expedited shipping or be ready to pay $78?

Mine was slow getting here compared to normal because of holidays:

UPS and FedEx (if memory serves me correctly) charge ridiculous fees for shipping international. It is not a custom's tax, no import tax, no tax at all...just a fee they charge at delivery to screw the customer even more.

Hey FruitSaladExtreme, If you have it send UPS Canada Express that will include brokerage fees. It will cost you more then standard UPS ground but it will be less then Standard Ground and Brokerage fees. I'd suggest seeing if you can upgrade your shipping. You'll also get your item faster too!

The item has already been shipped, it's currently at:

PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE

Is there anything I can do at this point? I'm more or less worried when I will be charged.

What will most likely happen now is that your package will be processed and delivered as scheduled. When UPS delivers the package to you they will have you pay the brokerage fee to them. Also if you were not aware of it they will also collect any PST and GST at the same time.

I believe I paid the GST and PST through the reseller, or are they not the same?

Would I be billed a few days after I received it or at the door? I'm having trouble finding $78 in cash.

If you already paid for the taxes then you wont have to worry about that. I know when we ship to Canada you do not pay us for PST or GST when you order thru our site, but other sites may do it differently. You pay UPS all amounts due at the time of delivery

I'm not sure about which type of options you have to make payment. I would suggest calling your local UPS and inquire with them.

What I wouldn't do for an image of Dr. Evil in a UPS outfit going "Your delivery charges are One MILLION Dollars."

Ask your UPS driver to keep it real, they will try to charge for a bunch of nothing , my ups driver is nice enough to waive all that bogus crap. Ups might try to hassle you for more fees they do it from time to time.

And mention that your buddy "jake" down at the "local UPS processing plant - look up your local one" said that if you asked nicely and gave the driver $20 cash that he would be able to take care of it.

It's been stuck on [PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE] for 4 days now.

This is starting to me off. If it doesn't arrive by the 20th, I'm allowed to demand a refund right?

It does take a while for a package to go through customs, was it promised that you laptop will arrive by the 20th?

The 19th. Though, last time my M1730 was late through UPS's brokers, they delayed my claim to the next day.

Call them and tell them THAT YOU ACCEPT THE BROKAGE CRAP, they wont run it thru until you do, its really stupid they dont even tell you that they need confirmation. I made a purchase once and it stayed at that same status for 8 days !!! so on the 8th day of this I decided to call and apparently they where waiting my confirmation  , so i confirmed and took all that ups crap only to get it wayved by my friendly neighborhood ups delivery man !!!!!!! There is hope for humanity.

    Hope my experience Helps

Overall yea, if you can ship USPS I find.
No garbage brokerage to worry about, like a $5 fee.

I have had good experience (on the receiving end) with USPS. But nothing that cost as much as laptops. $200 tops.

It goes from USPS -> Canada Post for handling once it is in Canada.

None at all at my end. :)

But obviously that might not be the case for higher priced items.
