I am generally very happy with my Asus X53/F3. However, and this is a big however, the laptop has been getting increasingly hot over the past few days,- to a point which means the palm rest can get to hot to touch. The Ac adapter/brick also gets to a point which I cannot touch it after about an hour of use.
Thats not the only problem, though, the adapter has now melted inside the laptop...

I don' t have my receipt anymore (Unless I can find it tomorrow) and I brought the laptop about 2 months ago and since then was told that I had to replace a failed harddrive (which did not really bother me too much).

I just do not know what to do, it was brought brand new less than two months ago but the 28 day store warranty is over and seemingly my only option left is Asus,- which here in the UK gets a very bad rating for customer support.

    Help!

Done that already, they are clear. The fact remains that the AC adapter is now a permanent addition to my laptop!

Thanks anyway guys, just called PC World and booked a repair, only to be called back telling me that PC World will not repair Asus notebooks.

Im going to go to the store when I get the time and hopefully sort it out that way?

    Any other adivce?

What is strange that your AC adapter is getting so hot. Looks like your lappy consumes AC in excess. There are several reasons and the major is overload/overclock. Second reason is power grid runs low - summer time, air conditioners are on and you have 80V instead of 110v

After reading your post more carefully, it seems that you have a power supply problem. I would suggest you take it to a qualified serviceperson to solve this problem, as the notebook may even be dangerous to use if such is the case.

It may also be useful to remove the fan physically and clean it. There is also an image showing you how the fan looks when the cover(s) are taken off the notebook.

I have no choice but to use the laptop for work, HP did supply me with a laptop and I did have a vaio, but since then I have sold both,- solely relying upon my new Asus.

So, the Asus Warranty does not cover this issue,- which I would assume it would. However, my experience with Asus is pretty much nil.

And yes, the fans are running.

    Ac Adapter:

    INPUT: 100-240V
    OUTPUT: 19V
    MODEL: ADP-90SB BB

It seems there is a short of some kind inside the notebook, which is a) drawing too much power from the adapter, making it overheat and b) overheating the internals of the notebook as well.

It is arguable whether ASUS covers this issue. Since it's not really physical damage though, I think they should.

Even though ASUS UK gets very bad reports, I think in this situation there is little that you can do except send it to them -- unless you don't want to try disassembly yourself. Be aware that it can take them a lot of time to process the laptop, up to a couple of months in some cases. So be prepared for that situation, if you do send it in.

There is also the alternative of trying a local repairshop that you know will process the laptop faster -- but you'd need to pay. I'm not sure you could find such a shop...

Ive had a quote from a friend who owns such a shop, it's going to cost me £78 for the repair and then further costs for a new AC adapter,- not really costs which I want to in cure after buying a replacement harddrive.

Physical damage...The AC adapter is now not removable!!

Thanks. Buying a new notebook will be a last resort but not something which I am wanting to do...

Well yes it is physical, but not something caused by mishandling the computer. I should have been clearer.

I don't think you should resort to a new computer... ASUS should fix this. The only downside is that in UK, it may take a lot of time...

In fact 78 pounds is not much! I fear that it may be possible that the motherboard is affected in which case it would cost much more...

Yeh, well to be honest I can afford the costs but cannot see a clear justification for a laptop which is prone to issues anyway. Plus, I will need to buy a new AC adapter, obviously give him some money and arrange a replacement laptop (from work, hopefully) for a few days.

I would much rather Asus fix this issue, as I was told I would have to replace a failed HDD a month ago!

Thanks for the help and work you do here E.B.E
