For some reason Vista has decided that some of my USB ports are only 1.x instead of 2.0. When I plug my iPod into the wrong port, it will give me a message that I should switch to a faster port and my transfer speeds are really slow. I checked under device manager and it lists five Intel 1CH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller and two ICH8 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller. I only have four USB ports and they're supposed to all be 2.0.

Other devices are internally connected via USB interface (e.g., webcam) so that's (part of) the reason for which you see many USB interfaces.

I would suggest trying to reinstall the chipset drivers. In case they have an "uninstall" item in the Add/Remove software list, do uninstall them first.

Be aware that this may mess up/confuse drivers installed later. Perhaps it's best done in Safe Mode.

There's also reportedly a small utility, which allows you to remove drivers for the various USB devices that were inserted into the USB ports at one time or another. Try finding it (unfortunately I do not remember a name) and remove all those drivers. Make sure you don't remove drivers for internal devices (like the webcam example above) or if you do, have them on hand to be prepared to reinstall them.
