When I connect my new Zenbook Pro laptop to my new Asus 4k display (PB279Q) using a USB-C to Displayport adapter, I cannot get a stable image.

Instead I get flickering which makes the display unusable:

    ).

The issue occurs regardless of the resolution I choose for the display. I do not have any other external displays connected.

I wish to use USB-C instead of HDMI, so that I can use the 4k resolution of the display at 60Hz refresh (I have switched the display to use Displayport 1.2 mode).

I am trying to determine whether the cause of the flickering issue is either
    A) faulty laptop, or
    B) faulty display.

(I eliminated the USB-C adapter as the cause, since I have tried two different adapters and I get the same problem with either).

I observed the same issue both before and after applying the following updates:

    1) Bios update to version 300 (2016/06/02)

    2) ASUS Thunderbolt firmware Update NVM_v15_TI_v1.5 (2016/05/16)

The laptop is otherwise in a factory state (I have not made any other changes).

I've asked ASUS support for help on this, but I thought I'd also post here in case anyone else has had a similar problem and knows a solution or workaround etc.

    Thanks :)

When I tested, the Cellet usb-c displayport adapter worked well with a single external 4k monitor. You can buy it at walmart.com

The only time it didn't work was when there were 2 external monitors. The usb-c dp monitor kept blinking like that.

There is no solution or workaround.

You need a motherboard replacement, and asus is out of stock of the new motherboards right now. I'm still waiting for my replacement.

A quick update for anyone interested:

When I connect the laptop to the mini Displayport connector on the display (instead of the full-size Displayport connector), the flickering issue is resolved and the image is stable (4k at 60Hz refresh).

So, it would appear that the cause of the issue in my case is a faulty full-size Displayport connector on my ASUS PB279Q display (because the mini Displayport connector works fine), and not the laptop USB-C port, which thankfully appears to be fully working.

    Thanks :)

you should bring your laptop to your local electronics store to test other monitors with full size displayport, just to make sure.
