I bought my 11" Zenbook new six weeks ago here in Taipei, home of ASUS. From the start it would, on some occasions, crash when the AC was turned off, whether from the plug being pulled from the computer's port, the adapter being pulled from the outlet, or the power to the adapter's outlet being cut. It then boots to the DOS-looking prompt that offers regular boot, safe mode, etc. The crashes happened about 50% of the time, following no discernable pattern. The battery was always well-charged. I took it to ASUS service, and they installed a new motherboard within two days. I can verify the motherboard switch because Windows required me to type in the product key again. I now have the same problem with the new motherboard, and am taking it back for a refund. I hope they don't fight me on that, but there's simply no way I can trust this model--crashes upon losing AC power are a dealbreaker for me. Is there anyone who puts up with this? I googled, and I found an early reviewer who reports the same problem as a dealbreaking defect, but I don't see the problem reported anywhere else. Both the service center and the retailer tell me they've never heard of this problem before (surprise), but even so, I see no option but to bail rather than continue to work for ASUS gratis as a Zenbook tester.

They should replace your charger - did it with mine and problem was solved. Orgina one is too soft and get kind of mangled when you are putting laptop on the table. In geneal it's crapy charger.

I already have a replacement charger. The Zenbook exhibits the same defect regardless of the charger.

Can you explain this in more detail? I'm not sure what you mean.

I have had the same problem with my ux31. I sent it back to asus and they replaced the mainboard on warranty. After that, the problem never occured again.

    Hope that helps.

As I said in my original post, ASUS replaced my motherboard, but the crashes upon AC disconnect continue. I just uninstalled ASUS's Power4GearHybrid power management software, and so far the problem hasn't happened, so that's promising. If it is indeed the ASUS software, it's sort of sad that they don't know about it, and truly sad that they replaced my motherboard when it didn't need replacing.

Same here, my UX21 does not charge the battery and disconected from A/C turn off. Updated everything and uninstalled Power4Gear without any progress. Guess should send it to Asus. Does anyone else getting the same problem?

I have one of the early models, with the Sentelic trackpad, and the mouse jumps around all over the place - if you double click, you never know what the second click is going to land because the mouse will have jumped somewhere completely different in between the two clicks, sometimes opening a completely new application in the process. I've downloaded new drivers and disabled some of the more advance features of the trackpad, but the problem remains.
Anyway - I called Asus, and you know what? They didn't want to know. They refused to admit there was a problem, even though there are hundreds of posts about this exact issue on the net (their response to that was "Oh, you don't want to believe everything you read in the internet sir!".
It sounded like a guy in the call centre reading from a script written by Asus and denying everything.

Anyway, Asus - never again. This may be a sleek looking machine, but it was rushed out to market with insufficient testing. I wouldn't mind, but you refuse to admit that the machine with this trackpad is *completely* un-useable.
