I bought a UX302LA at BB last month and was traveling with it for a few days and was forced to use the usb Ethernet dongle. When I connected the dongle to the back left USB port it would power cycle (connect for about 10 sec, lose power (green light goes out), then reconnect, rinse and repeat every 10-20 seconds). I noticed that this behavior happens more frequently when the connection is trying to download a large file. It happens mostly on the back left usb port and happens less frequently on the left front usb port and doesn't happen at all when you connect the dongle to the right side usb port.
So when I got home a couple of weeks ago, I returned the laptop. After further research, I went ahead and purchased another UX302LA and instead of updating to Win 8.1 right away, I wanted to see if I could replicate the same issue. Of course it did the same thing. Other than the usb issue, I want to really like this laptop.
I would ask UX302LA owners to try and replicate this behavior. I suspect that it is an issue with the left side mini usb card since this behavior is non existent on the right usb port.
Please let me know what you find out...Nick

If one port works better with this adapter then stick to it. The weak signal issue relies on whether ASUS can fix it under warranty or not.
