From what I can tell this laptop has now been upgraded to Broadwell. The only model I can see for sale has a 128GB SSD and 6GB RAM. The older model UX303 is upgradeable but has anybody tried upgrading the new one? If so, does it also use a 7mm 2.5" SSD? Does opening the system void the warranty?

Yes, I have the Broadwell version of the UX303LA and I have replaced the SSD with a Samsung 850 Pro 512gb model. It is a standard 7mm 2.5" SSD and is very easy to replace.

I am keeping the original drive around in case I ever need warranty service. I'll just swap the drives back before sending it in.

I haven't touched the RAM - mine came with 8gb - but it should be very easy to replace as well.

Opening the system can void the warranty. If Asus can detect any signs that the laptop was disassembled, they are liable to not cover repairs under warranty.

Yes. The ports are separate, allowing you to connect two different drives. Note that the mSATA port is mSATA, not m.2.

The mSATA port is a mini mSATA though, and you'll be limited to 128GB max size and limited performance compared to full size drive. It was really added as option for a cache drive when they were offering primarily hard drives, now they've gone completely SSD.
