    Hello everyone,

I've been thinking about getting a UX303LN specifically for the dedicated GT 840M graphics card.

The trouble is I don't want the glossy WQHD touch screen, I'd rather just a normal matte non-touch like the UX32VD 1080p or ideally a lesser screen.

Would it be possible to purchase the UX303LN and then convert to the older screen and bezel on the UX32VD? I understand it's the gloss touch cover on the UX303LN that I also need to get rid of as well as the LCD.

Or should I just go with a used UX32VD? I'd really prefer the updated CPU and graphics card of the UX303LN.

    Any help much appreciated..

You could look to get a thin matte coating over the top but actually replacing the panel while may be possible I don't think you want to go down that road.

It would be simpler to apply a matte film yourself than to entertain replacing the entire LCD (if you can source a compatible panel with the matte finish, even). Of course, if you find a compatible screen with the matte finish from factory, and if you really want to go for it, it's not very complicated to replace the screen (although it is an involved process).

You do have to be a bit careful with touch panels as they often have built in glass to protect the panel that can't easily be removed.

Thanks everyone, I went with the UX303LN.

It's not just the matte screen but also because the +QHD screen is of such high resolution, too high for such a small laptop.

If possible I'd revert to a 720p or 1080p screen, or the screen on the UX32VD.

I will see how I go when I receive it and make a decision from there.

Well it seems that the problem is not just the glossy screen.

But also the terrible mustard yellow colour on the UX303LN (even with all the updates).

    I can't live with it I'm afraid. But I'd like the higher spec'd UX303LN

Given the laptops are so similar would it be possible for me to revert back to the 1080p of the older models like the UX32VD?

I imagine hardware wise there will be no problem, software is another issue however.

More so the reverse; it's possible a panel used from a previous model may not be the right fitting or use the same connection for the video cable. I don't know if firmware would come into play here either.

But there's no software - not at an OS level - that would inhibit you from using it.

Have you tried any screen calibration/ICC profiles to help with the yellow tint? This has come up frequently, and I thought there was something around these forums that helped...

The metal shape and structure of the two are identical so I would like to mount the whole 32VD screen and panel to the 303LN. I'm going to give it a shot.

I tried the calibrations etc. I am not satisfied, still mustard yellow just a bit more yellow.

I bought the Thai version which doesn't have a touchscreen (and is cheaper!). The matte screen is wonderful. It's amazingly bright and I can use it outdoors comfortably (but still not something I'd do to look at pictures, but surfing the web is fine)

There is also a malaysian vendor that ships to the US and a german one. The thai retailer i used didnt ship to the USA

Thanks for this. I will attempt the matte screen swap when the parts are available. Can I ask whether or not your screen is 1600x900 or 1920x1080? Is it the LA or LN model as far as I know the LN model doesn't get the 1600x900.

The 1600x900 is the one I want for such a small screen!

Thanks for this really appreciate it. How do you find the screen is the scaling good? I was worried that 1080 would be too much for such a small screened laptop.

No it's just right. 1080x1920 is pretty standard now. Be sure to adjust the cleartype settings though, the defaults were wonky

Easiest option would be going to the IPS 1080p panel you have.

My problem is finding a 1600x900 panel that will fit. The only one I can find is from a UX31E but I'm not sure it will fit.

Have no idea which is better but I'm thinking I may prefer non-IPS for viewing angles, no backlight glow, better blacks and faster refresh.

I may have done a u-turn on the touch pad screen I quite like it actually.. wish it wasn't glossy but I don't think those exist.

Anyway will see how I go.

@thrombox - You might be able to find a matte film to apply to the screen yourself. Various online retailers sell them.

Hi again, guys sorry to keep banging on.

But has anyone any idea whether or not I could downgrade from the QHD+ screen to the 1080p screen but still keep the touch screen capability?

I know the non-discreet graphics version of the UX303 has just that so a 1080p gloss touch screen, so surely it must be possible? Thanks!
