I can't find any clear explanation how to use the audio input jack on the UX31. As best I can tell, the external speaker jack doubles as an input jack. Does that mean I can have either an external speaker or external mic input, but not both at the same time? Or does it mean it's an iPhone type jack which can accept a dual mic/speaker input cable? Or ???

The manual say if you plug in a mic you will get on screen instructions how to switch, however this has never happened, and the best I can ever get is a very low level out of phase signal input, more like signal crosstalk than actual input signal. Yes, I did enable the mic input in the mixer.

It occurred to me that having and either/or mic/speaker setup is a really bad idea... how would gamers using headsets, or skype users, manage with that? Is this really the case??
