Hello fellow UX31 owners,
I observed a few users in different threads have the same issue. So I thought it would be nice to have a single place to discuss and search for a solution.
The issue:
When the battery got fully charged, the wall plug charger doesn't turn green and stays orange.
Possible reason (not confirmed):
206 and 207 BIOS version bug.
The stock 204 may not be affected.
It may be related to the software used to flash the BIOS.
What is sure:
It is not related to the charger itself (dazz87 tested with 2 different UX31 charger, one being from a working UX31, and both didn't turned green as expected).
It is not related to a specific UX31 model (bambooragons and me have the exact same model, only me has the issue).
What we would like you to tell us:
- Do you have the issue?
- Did you flashed your BIOS? To which version?
- Did you experienced the issue prior to flashing the BIOS?
- Did you flashed the BIOS with WinFlash (Asus Live Updater), EasyFlash or AFLASH?
- What is your exact UX31 model? (should be DHxx for US or RV0xx for EUR)
So far:
imprzaWRC, used WinFlash to flash 207 => no issue
helmut, used WinFlash to flash 207 => issue (don't know if issue present prior to flashing)
dazz87, used EasyFlash to flash 206 => issue (had no issue prior to flashing)
dazz87 (on a different UX31), used WinFlash to flash 206 => no issue
cherhuan, used ??? to flash 206 => issue (don't know if issue present prior to flashing)
AdamJensen, used WinFlash to flash 206 => issue (don't know if issue present prior to flashing)
AdamJensen, used WinFlash to flash 207 (from 206) => issue (don't know if issue present prior to flashing)
So far, there doesn't seem to be any relation to the flashing method. And since only dazz87 seems to be sure that the issue wasn't present prior to the upgrade, it may not be related to the BIOS at all. But this is our only lead so far.

No issues here.
Method used: Winflash to 207
UX31E DH52
edit: update - Downloaded the latest "live update" utility and it updated everything to the latest softwares, drivers and bios (again?). Charged my laptop and still no problem with the charger. -
Yeah the issue started right after I flashed it to 206 using EasyFlash. On my second UX31 I used WinFlash and tested both the chargers and had no issue. With the 1st one, I did a full discharge (drain it down to 0%) and also reset the bios and the issue was still there (stays orange). I dont remember if I had my UX31 plugged in to the charger when I was flashing the bios. I am going to stay on 206 cause it looks like you got the same issue when you flashed it to 207 using WinFlash.

I have this problem.
Used WinFlash to flash 207 from 206 and 204.
Sent an email to Asus and they recommended sending it in for an RMA. Still reluctant to do so. Seems like a hardware issue. While plugged in on my lap, slightest movement will cause the power profile to change from battery to charging due to the flimsy ac connector.
The only time I see it green is when I unplug it from the UX31. -
Well, I hope it's not an hardware problem.
Is there a way to downgrade the BIOS or for winflash to bypass the version check?
dazz87: you should have had the UX31 plugged while flashing because WinFlash/EasyFlash won't flash if it's not plugged and has less than 20% of battery remaining. -

Anyone tried the new 209 BIOS ?
-
I just flashed my UX31 today from 206 to 209 and no issue. My charger light changed from orange to green when it hit 95%. I used Winflash. -
Thx for the update.
No luck for me, flashed from 207 to 209 using EasyFlash, and the light still doesn't turn green. -
Finally sending mine in for an RMA. It's gotten worse where if I have it plugged in and move the UX31 just a little, it changes profiles from AC Adapter to Battery. This morning, I plugged it in and thought it was charging. Later powered on, it failed to charge even though the light was orange indicating charging.

I am having no problems on the 206, 207 or 209.

My charger unit has always had an orange light at all times on BIOS 207 & 209, unless I unplug it from the UX31, then it's green. Right now, my taskbar battery meter says "100% fully charged", but the charger LED is orange. I wasn't even aware this was a bug until I stumbled upon this thread.
Can someone explain why this is bad? Is it going to overload my battery? Is my charger unit defective? -
