So I have a spanking new Asus UX31A-4043p. It is a touchscreen model. Touchscreen has been working but then suddenly does not. In control panel the "Touch and Pen Input" icon is missing as well. In device manager there are no missing drivers nor can I see a touch panel in the HID section.

When I do a recovery I get touch screen back. There is nothing installed or changed as far as I know between the restore point and when the touch screen doesnt work.

Has anyone else experiened this or have any ideas as to what I can do to fix this?

I haven't personally heard of this or come across it. It's a good thing your recovery is still in tact! Does this occur with any rhyme or reason to it? Ex: does it happen after Windows updates?

I have had the same problem -but no luck on getting it to come back with a restore.

It has been at Asus service for 3 weeks now, and still no progress on the repair (waiting for parts ???) Service chat promised it to go out last friday, but no update on status yet.

frustrating. I am assuming a hardware failure since it is not detected by the system at all.

I actully got mine working again, with the following steps (Windows 8)

Winkey + x > Control Panel > Action Center > Troubleshooting > Hardware & Sound > Device > "Find and fix problems with devices..."

First time the troubleshooter ever fixed anything for me, but it seemed like I had used a USB mouse with a "broken" driver, which caused it... I hope so - it is still working, if it breaks again, I'll try and update this post

    Update:
It keeps breaking once in a while, but the above mentioned procedure always fixes it. Might be a software/driver issue I think?

It's definitely a software conflict or corruption of some sort. I'm surprised the troubleshooter fixed it as well, actually (even if only temporarily).

I have been through this cycle a few times now, following the steps above each time to get it working again. What I have noticed is that each time I get to the end of the troubleshooting and applying the fix, a bubble by the clock pops up indicating that "ASUS Instant On" is active. Makes me wonder if that program isn't part of the problem.

Has nobody else seen this issue?

I uninstalled the ASUS Instant On program and still have the issue from time to time. Now the thing doesn't go to sleep when closing the lid and I wonder if taking out that Instant On program has caused that little issue. Getting rather annoyed.
