    Hi All

Just recently got Asus UX31A-DH51... updated to the latest BIOS version.

Is anyone else seeing that the fan tends to turn on for a brief moment then turn right back off when doing any sort of action (opening new page in firefox, etc.)? If I leave the computer totally idle, the fan stays completely silent.

    Couple questions:

    (1) Is the above behavior normal?
    (2) Is it bad for the fan in general to repeatedly turn ON/OFF?

    Thanks All!

I suppose that depends on the pattern. If it's on and off again for only a second or two, that's not normal. If it revs for several seconds - minute(s), then spins down, then that's normal. Opening a program is liable to cause the fans to rev. :)

    Hi,

Yeah it seems like it corresponds to whenever I undertake a new activity - opening a new website/switching tabs, etc. When the activity is more intensive i.e. watching a video or something then the fan does tend to remain on.

I think it also seems to be related to CPU temp - once the processor goes above 50 C it seems the fan starts going. Is it normal for an i5-3317u to be running around 45-50 C for simple firefox browsing/facebook chat?

    Thanks again!

My ux31a touch is also doing this, and I am selling it right now because that drives me crazy. I am not sure what the reason for this is, but it is always doing this now. I dont know if it is normal, but it is also happening to me.
