    Hey,

My fiancee's UX31A has had a lot of issues in a couple of years of ownership.

Under warranty, the motherboard, wireless card, audio module and LCD were all replaced.

Unfortunately, she's out of warranty now and her LCD is having some issues. I'm trying to figure out what the issue is so I can search around and find the best price to get the part replaced.

Here's a picture of the screen:

    You'll notice the vertical distortion.....

Is it likely that the LCD is malfunctioning? a cable? the motherboard?

    Thanks for any guidance!

Either the LCD or a problem with the Intel HD graphics (the chip itself, not the software). I doubt it's the LCD video cable, though it can be suspect too. Do you see the same thing(s) you first turn the computer on, and/or when you enter the BIOS setup?

I'll have to ask her to enter the bios tonight to see if the issue still exists. She said it does happen during the boot-up process from the first moment that she turns on the computer.

most likely a flatflex issue or a micro crack on the lcd layer of the screen. both unrepairable short of replacing the entire LCD panel

Luckily a screen should not be too expensive.
