Apologies if this is covered somewhere else in the forum as I couldn't really find it...

I have an intermittent problem with my zenbook (US keyboard): some letters won't type.
Someone suggested to open the back of the ultrabook and check the connection of the keyboard to the motherboard.

I can't understand how this can fix my problem though since the letters Q, C and K actually do work when the shift and/or the caps lock keys are pressed beforehand. Ad example, if I want to type the letter k I have to press before "caps lock" then "shift" then K and and if I want to type the letter K (in capital) I have to press before just "shift" then K...

It would sound to me more a software/driver problem than an hardware one but I can be wrong of course...
The described issue applies to the keyboard's keys c/C k/K q/Q as well as the "." (dot) key actually.

I have tried installing both Windows 7 and Windows 8 in the Ultimate flavour together with all the drivers needed of course, sometimes the keys do work yet far more often they don't.
By the way, how people get installed the utility (or driver ?) KB_Filter? Would that fix my problem?

    Cheers.

It sounds like there is a short with the key matrix. You can try uninstalling the keyboard driver in Device Manager and then let Windows reload the default driver. I don't think that will fix it though since you had this problem with a fresh install (which, again, makes me think it's hardware related).

The KB filter is a driver that opens up additional functionality, and is considered bloatware, but you can give it a shot if you feel so inclined.

You should be able to acquire said utility here.
