So wireless chips are amazingly cheap these days, in fact the Intel 6320 half height mini is about $20 on Amazon. Yet, asus in their infinite wisdom chose an Atherose chip with only 2.4ghz and uses some sort of odd pin-out.

Does anyone know of an upgrade solution to a dual band wireless? The Atherose comes out easy, so I'm hoping I can get 5g and the 300mps off my router.

    Thanks

I´m thinking in doing the same, and installing an Intel 6300.

Would be interesting if someone who has tried before tells us if it´s possible.

I'm not certain the wireless adapter in the zenbooks is user replaceable. You'd have to find a teardown of the zenbook, maybe anandtech.

The first gen Zenbooks have a proprietary form factor and connector for the wifi card. As far as I have seen the 2nd generation uses standard half-height mini PCIe.

I know this is an old thread, but have any of you upgraded the wireless adapter? I just received an Intel Ultimate N 633ANHMW Ultimate N 633ANHMW Wireless Adapter Mini PCI Express Up to 450Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2 from Newegg and plan on attempting to swap it out this weekend. The only potential "issue" I can see is that the new card uses 3 antennae whereas the original only 2. That shouldn't be a major hindrance though as I have already crafted a third wire with the antenna plug and will route that inside the case somehow.

No, this in itself would not be a problem, as you custom installed the third wire. What it boils down to is interface. As long as it is the same dimensions and connection type, you should be set.

True. I just ran out yesterday to get the appropriate materials for the third antenna. I am going to swap out the card this weekend. Been too busy with work lately.

i assume the cards mentioned in this thread didn't work since ux31e has its own form factor.
has anyone found a working 5 ghz wireless card? i heard the form factor was invented by apple but their mac book air cards still have a different form factor.
