I recently purchased a refurbished UX31LA for $599 (awesome deal). I'm coming from an XPS 13 and I have two huge complaints.

    1) The trackpad is undoubtedly plastic. It flexes at the bottom corners and feels plasticky to the touch. I also opened up the notebook and it still seems plasticky from inside.

    2) The speakers are weak. Bang and Olufsen would not be proud.

Is this a downgrade for the UX31E and UX31A? Has this line always had a plastic trackpad and bad speakers?

    Positive things:

    -Beautiful display
    -Minimal backlight bleed
    - Great keyboard, even when compared to the XPS 13's
-Great construction (although the seams are a little rough)
    -pretty great battery life
    -silent fans

The trackpad is fairly decent in terms of functionality and responsiveness, the feel just isn't as nice as it could've been. seems like an odd place to cut costs on a fully metallic ultrabook.
