    Hi,

I hope somebody may be able help me with what I think is a fundamental problem with the SSD in my Asus UX32A.

The machine is supposed to come with a 500GB HDD and a 24GB SDD to speed up hibernation etc. However, I can't find any evidence of the SDD. It's not visible in the BIOS (as far as I can see) or in Windows Diskmanager (please see screenshots) 2012-11-07 09.01.16.jpg diskmanager screensho.gif .

Therefore my basic question is should the SSD be visible? And if so, presumably I have a hardware problem rather than a driver problem as the driver shouldn't affect the BIOS?

I have seen other posts where people have problems with the SSD in Windows, however other people appear to report that the SSD is visible in the BIOS.

The background to my question is that I've had the computer for 1 month, and have just upgraded to Windows 8. Upon upgrading I installed Expresscache which gave me an error message that Expresscache couldn't be set up as no SSD could be found. Before upgrading I never thought to check if the SSD was present.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi again..

I thought maybe I made my question too complicated as no one replied...

All I want to know from anyone who has an Asus notebook / Zenbook / ultrabook with a HDD + 24gb inbuilt SSD is whether I should be able to see the SSD in the BIOS / Windows Diskmanager? (My screenshots show what I can see - the SSD seems to be missing).

I contacted ASUS technical support, who said that they "only support the original drive that was install (HDD)".. which ignores the fact that my computer's meant to have an SSD as well!

The disk in question is proprietary and not attached to a serial bus to my knowledge, so it would make sense for the BIOS setup to not list it under the SATA ports available.

As far as disk management, I cannot recall whether that's correct or not. Since people have (mistakenly) formatted the drive in the past, I can only presume that it should show up in disk management, but perhaps there's more to it. If it shows up in CrystalDiskInfo, well...there you go. :)
