    Hi everyone

I've searched through these forums, but haven't found an answer to my question. My 18 month old UX32A has recently started giving disk errors, and when I installed a disk scanner (Crystal Disk), it warned me that failure is imminent. So, I'm looking to upgrade the disk with an SSD before it fails. My idea is to clone the current HDD to a USB drive, swap out the HDD for my fancy new SSD, then magically restore the cloned image from the USB. I've got a couple of questions.

    1. can I restore a HDD image on to a SSD?
    2. can I do the restore from an USB drive?
    3. what are some recommendations for SSDs that are compatible with the UX32A?
    4. is it even possible to do this? I saw a Youtube video that claimed that the UX32A couldn't be upgraded.
    5. does the 24GB SSD used for caching present any difficulties doing this?

I'm quite new to this kind of hardware stuff, so forgive me if these questions seem a bit newbie.

    many thanks

I believe there is a regular SATA connection for the drive so you should be able to remove the stock drive and put in a SSD. I would suggest opening it up to find out for sure before you place an order for the SSD.

For brands the Samsung 840 Evo have been one of the most popular ones.

Its best to do a clean install of the OS and not do a clone. Many times you just get errors when you clone from a HDD to SSD and eventually just do a clean install anyway, so save some time and headache and do the clean install from the start.

    Hi Hutsady K.

thanks for the reply. Good to know that it may not be worth doing the clone. Also I'll look into the Samsung 840 Evo.

    Cheers!
