So today I restarted after a windows update and my laptop would not boot up. It would get past the windows Logo and then the screen would turn off and and then on with a black screen and off again, etc... I can see and move the cursor on the black screen.

I tried to boot in safe mode but it would just boot into a black screen (not flashing). In the end I had to system restore to get it to boot up.

I tried windows update again (making sure it wasn't corrupted last time) and the same thing happened.

So basically I'm kind of stuck. My laptop works fine but I don't want to do any windows updates until I know what's causing it.

I'm suspecting the new bios (213) since I updated it right before this happened. Windows update was fine before this too.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

Microsoft released some bad updates earlier this week, it would seem. A lot of people - both Windows 7 and Windows 8 users - are just utterly enthralled with them. :p Just had a customer call earlier today that had no problems with Windows 7 prior to updates. After he installed them, he couldn't connect to the internet - whether wireless or wired, regardless of which browser he used (and his notification tray showed he was connected to the internet, not "limited" connectivity).

So you're not alone - although that doesn't fix it for you. :(
