    Hi !

I have received my ux32vd yesterday (win7) and I still cannot turn on the backlit keyboard.
Even in the dark it does not work at all...
So I upgraded the BIOS to 213, but I am still not able to get the backlit working.

If I press fn + A, the message "Ambiant light sensor enabled" appears but that's it - nothing more on the keyboard.

I also tried to upgrade windows 7, there were several updates / reboot even if I don't think that this is related to the keyboard driver.

Anyway, someone else has/had this issue ? Or any idea why ?
It could be a hardware problem, I hope this is not. I actually would like to check that everything works fine on windows before switching on Linux.

    Thanks,

Fn+F4 to turn up the keyboard backlight, Fn+F3 to turn it down.

Thanks, but it doesn't seem to change anything for me :/

Maybe but if you buy a product, you expect to get all the features described and nothing less.
I just hope that this is a software issue, because it would be really painful to send it back ( as I ordered it abroad )

Alas, BIOS won't play a part in the backlight. The Ambient light sensor is connected to the webcam; it's designed to dim the LCD to conserve battery power, depending on how much light is in the room (it goes off the camera's ISO).

Can you try looking for a firmware update? Or contact Asus for a link/solution?

Fn+F4 turns on the keyboard backlight, so if that isn't doing it, and if it isn't coming on automatically when you power on the machine, you have either a hardware problem or a driver problem. The ATK package is what manages the low level ACPI/WMI functions, so make sure you have that installed.

Check the power management settings in Windows.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest ATK package from Asus as well?

Might be the firmware. I'm not sure if there is any way to keep it off indefinitely.

How did you solve the problem? Asus changed my motherboard too and keyboard backlight doesn't work.

    //edit

I had to send zenbook second time and they replaced motherhood again. After that my zenbook worked.
